Signs of Ovarian Cancer
Sisterhood sent me this Subject_** : SIGNS OF OVARIAN CANCER (even in the absence of Ovaries) THIS IS A MUST TO …
well yesterday I FINALLY made it to my yearly gynecologist appointment, that fun 'picnic' I love sooo much. (my sarcasm of course. I don't know ONE woman that enjoys this exam - haha)
I actually made it a 2 year (haven't seen her in 2 years...procrastination). I actually scheduled it in February but the doctor office couldn't see me until yesterday, 4 months later. I don't understand what takes them so long to see patients. Anyway, since I've been missin' for a couple years, she got me all caught up on the latest technology in women's health. She informed me about a couple of things that's NEWS to me. She told me I really should be having a yearly Ultrasound.. because of my family history. My mom who died of Ovarian Cancer already puts me at a HIGH risk. The doctor informed me in some cases, this 'mutational' gene (cancerous) can actually be passed on to the next generation which could be me. Needless to say, that piece of info made me concerned. I went ahead and scheduled to have an Ovarian ultrasound for next week. And, needless to say I'm not thrilled about it, I have a hard enough time with the regular 'woman's exam' much less this.. I hope it doesn't hurt. I'm scared of doctors.
The other piece of news is that she highly recommended I get started on a contraceptive she can prescribe for me. Now, I've never had to take 'the pill' cuz there's never really been a reason to take it -- haha... but, again, this doctor says contraceptives have actually lowered the risk of ovarian cancer for 'high risk' people like myself...
I'm so undecided and am not sure what to do. I'm thinkin' I'll go ahead and get on the pill...wow. I hope there are not great side effects to it.
I may as well get into this BPCA (Be Prepared Cancer Analysis) ...as this program is called for 'high risk' individuals like myself. One of my friends told me "nah, you don't want to get involved with the hormone crap do you?" Yet, my gut feeling is telling me to go ahead and take the contraceptive. After seein' the crap my mom went through, I guess I'll do whatever it takes.

I'm deciding to take a very expensive special blood test in a couple of weeks, but it's possible to pay the …
MY COUSIN DIED TODAY OF OVARIAN CANCER.
SWEETIE I WOULD GET A SECOND OPINION BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING. HONESTLY MY OLD DOCTOR WANTED ME TO TAKE THE "PILL" BECAUSE OF MY HISTORY OF COLON CANCER (NOW IN REMISSION FOR OVER 20 YEARS) ANYWAY I SAID WHY I AM IN MENOPAUSE AND MY TUBES ARE CUT BURNED AND TIED, AND OUR "BABY" IS GOING TO BE 23 YEARS OLD NEXT MONTH SO WHY WOULD YOU WANT ME ON THE PILL? SO I TOOK THIS INFORMATION TO MY NEW DOCTOR AND HE SAID ANNE YOU DON'T NEED TO BE ON THE PILL, WELL AT LEAST NOT "THAT ONE". WE JUST NEED TO KEEP TABS ON YOUR CELLS. I SAID "OH NOTHING LIKE HAVEING ANOTHER NEEDLE STUCK IN YA HEY? ) I HATE NEEDLES BUT THEY AREN'T SO BAD NOW AFTER ALL THE NEEDLES I HAVE HAD IN ME. SO I WENT IN FOR THE BLOOD WORK, AND I AM OK. THANK GOD I DID NOT LISTEN TO MY OLD DR.

I am so proud of you for going... It is so mimportant. I am going to disagree with "oakiesdaughter" .. I would do some research on the "BPCA" especially because ovarian cancer is definitely a genetic cancer. I don't know that you need to be on bc but maybe some low dose of hormone therapy. FOLLOW YOUR GUT... Again, I am so proud of you for going.. I know.. I hate it as well... HUGS
