Hope everyone is having a good day!
I have lots to tell you ;-). Just came back from vacation a few days ago. Had a nice time. Went farther up north near my grandparents. Stayed at a beautiful camp ground. The coho (salmon) were running. Amazing all the fish lined up. Thousands. It was interesting. Seeing my grandparents to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary was wonderful. Wow, 65 years!
One night at the camp ground we decided to get the bikes out for a easy ride around the park. Husband saw a bike rack he liked on a trailer and dad said well lets turn around and check it out. Well dad must have cut it a little to hard and fell. Smacked his head on the asphalt. I have a bag on the back of my bike full of 4x4's and band-aide wash for just in case. Well so glad I did. He was bleeding pretty good. Husband an EMT said we are going to the hospital. You need stitches. Sure enough, he had 5 stitches just above the eye and road rash on his cheek. He sure looks pitiful. I said you are not getting back on that bike till you and mom get helmets. Next day we went looking (not many bike shops in Honor Michigan) found one. But was closed. Dad peeked in the window and this wonderful lady opened it up and said come on in. Dad pointed to his booboo and said I need a helmet. She fitted them both. She is our angel. We really wanted to get more riding in before we went home and was worried it wouldn't happen. So please, please, please. If you get on a bike put on a helmet. No matter if you just going to take an easy ride. WEAR A HELMET! That night got back on the bikes and all of us had our helmets on.
We left Honor and headed back to West Branch to our property. Parked the camper and then took a walk to the back of the property to get the camera and download the pictures it took while we were gone. Downloading my husband let out a huge gasp and said shit deer we have a freaking bear here!! I ran and looked and sure enough, a picture of a 200 to 300 pound black bear. I will make a deal with it, he leaves us alone we will leave him alone ;-).
Ashlee had Chemo this week and slept threw most of it. She is home now and doing good and sleeping alot. Which is a good thing. Today I made a double batch of homemade spaghetti sauce to take them along with homemade bread. Living off fast food for the week while she was in there is rough. I love to cook so figured that is one thing I can do to help in this helpless feeling time.
Well that is about it. Will post some pictures of my poor dad and our black bear. Have to think of a name...lol. Love and hugs to all of you, your in my prayers. Mary

So glad that you got to spend quality time with your family. Your dad is very fortunate. Thank you for the reminder to wear the helmet. Wow, what an experience to see the bear captured by modern technology. Hopefully your property is large enough that he will keep his distance. Will continue to keep Ashlee in prayer. You are so very sweet to take such good care of her. Have a blessed day.

Hope your Dad gets to feeling better. Helmets have probably saved many, many lives. WOW, Your own personel black bear. He[she] looks big. Don't you all camp out on your property? If so, you better carry a shotgun. You need to name that bear. How about Black Bart? Of course it could be a she, then she could be Black Bertha. LOL. Seriously, you should come up with a name for it. Glad Ashlee slept through most of her Chemo. You are a wonderful Aunt to her. Keep me in your prayers tonight as I go to the Ortho-doc tomorrow morning. Still praying for Ashlee and all of your family..Grace to you..Barb

I remember as a kid we didn't know what a bike helmet was. I had a sign in my locker when I worked which said, "Experience is the name we give our mistakes!" Nearly 35 years on the job, "experience" was my middle name! :-) Looks like you-all had some this weekend! It is awesome how you and your husband have been able to spend time with your folks. You are definitely blessed. I take it you cherish every moment with them. Black bears are on the rise here in KY as well. Starting to show up near some towns down here. Just glad they ain't them Grizzly type bears. Of course we do have our share of copperheads. Talk about spooky! Was going to hit the trail this morning but rain is here. A welcomed sight. Have a good one & God bless, James
