About Me
I was diagnosed with having gout when I was 5. I became symptomatic @ 16 and am 39 now, so I have suffered nearly all of my life. Plus the pain is intense and unbearable @ times. However, I am lucky enough to have a loving and caring family to help me.

How's it going? Haven't seen a posting from you lately. How's the recovery coming along? I know it's a shock waking up and finding your foot gone, even when you know it's going to happen, it's still a shock. Now comes the recovery and all that stuff. Keep us posted. Close Chronic Pain
I am a 39 yo m suffering from an exteremly severe case of gout and constant chronic pain. There have been times that I wanted to give up, the pain was that bad, but I never gave up hope. Please help me talk about my pain and feelings.
Treatments
- Chiropractic Adjustment Working / Worked
- It worked until the gout got in my back. now there isn't a chiropractor that will touch me.
- Heat Working / Worked
- I use heating pads nearly everyday, they help however only temporarily.
- Hydrocodone Working / Worked
- I usually take my hydrocodone with my other pain meds as a little boost. When I take it by itself it usually lasts 2 -3 hours. I've been on it so long I don't have any side effects.
- Lyrica Working / Worked
- It works some with my nerve pain, but only for a whlie.
- Marijuana Considering
- I would use it if it were legal in my state, unfortunately it is not.
- Morphine Working / Worked
- I am taking both MS-Contin and MSIR. They are helpful, but I am tired of the constant constipation.
Close Gout
I was diagnosed with gout at the age of five and became symptomatic at 16, I'm 39 now and severly handicapped from the gout. I am confined to a wheelchair and have to daepend on muy family for nearly everything.
Treatments
- Allopurinol Somewhat Helpful
- I wasn't put on allopurinol until I was 28 and was given the maximum doseage, took it for two years and had to stop because my gut began to feel like it was starting to rot away. Now I can only take it for a coup;e of months at a time before my gut begins to hurt again and I have to stop taking it.
- Cherries Working / Worked
- They help some.
- Colchicine Working / Worked
- It helps, but I hate the diareha.
- Indocin Working / Worked
- It helps.
Open Amputees
i am already a partial amputee. i am missing 2 ad a half toes on each foot and the index finger on my right hand as well. my surgeon is recommending amputation of both of my legs abnove the knee so i'll be able to walk again. i've been in a wheelchair for over a year and hate it, but i need some advice.
Treatments
- Physical Therapy Not Working
- i did it once before with great results. i could walk straight and stand up to my full height(i even gained 2 inches in height), but had to stop. now i think it's too late.
- Prosthetic Device Considering
- my wife and doctor think it's a good idea, but i'm a little apprehensive.
Open Depression
Type: Clinical (Major) Depressioni was first diagnosed with depression in 1995, but suffered in silence for several years before that. i'm not seeing a doc right now. meds usually don't work but i've learned to cope. however, i have my spells.
Treatments
- Meditation Somewhat Helpful
- it helps but not all the time.
- Positive Thinking Somewhat Helpful
- same as meditation. works, but not always.
- Psychotherapy Working / Worked
- it at least gives me a place to vent because my counselor can't give me scripts.
- Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
- my wife understands what i'm going through.
