About Me
Healthy 66-year-old till May 2008 bad fall, resulting in 2-week hospital stay. Developed lung PEs after 2 weeks at home (no warning from discharge doctor of this potential problem). Luckily, went to my MD for shortness of breath and was in hospital another 2 weeks (reaction to Heparin added days to my stay--had to use Argotroban instead -- Hospital list cost of $124, 000!). This forum is wonderful! Doctors tell us relatively little, so this has been a godsend.
Interests
* Educating everyone I know about this little-known and scary condition! * getting healthy again (want to get back to the gym!) * getting used to Dallas after 25 years in Boston.

not sure which is worse - wait lists or expenses... shame the world hasn't found a perfect solution to medical care. Until they do, try this link http://tinyurl.com/5zogrx If it works tell me - I am curious! Until then, best wishes. Remember to ask family and friends for help if needed. I couldn't do it without my parents!

Close Pulmonary Embolism
PE 3 weeks ago. hospitalized 2 weeks; had heparin allergy and was on argotroban (sp?). am at home trying to get INR in therapeutic range. lots of anxiety.
Close GERD & Heartburn
Diagnosed 6 years ago in Boston with GERD, and in 2007 after endoscopy was told I have Barrett's Esophagous. Moved to Dallas; had another endoscopy and was told I DON'T have Barrett's! Not sure whom to believe! But I feel fine (GERD somewhat in the background since I had pulmonary embolisms this summer that took all my attention! Does anyone notice that capsule form of omaprazole is better than hard pill? Thanks!
Treatments
- Antacids Working / Worked
- use occasionally if Prevacid/omeprazole fails to control flair up.
- Prilosec Working / Worked
- works well but am concerned about future. This medication causes bone weakness!
- Raising Bed Position Working / Worked
- very helpful--just about 8" seems to do the trick.
Open High Cholesterol
Treatments
- Pravachol Working / Worked
- been on it only 3 months and total chol. down from 280 to 218, and MD wants to lower it more.
