    About Me

I am a writer. Husband. Dog, miniature pincture. No children. My passion is quilting using wild printed fabric in geometric patterns, like art. I'm better at quilting than I am at painting, but I enjoy both. My philosophy is to try to be positive and focused. I had malignant tumor in neck, surgery followed by radiation. CA can be devasting but also rewarding in unexpected ways.

      Type: Other

For a pea-size bump in front of my left ear, I went to my primary care physician 4X. He told me to eat sour candy to relieve an obstructed parotid gland. 5 months later, he send me to a ONT surgeon as the bump had grown to the size of a grape. 2 months later I had a partial parotidectomy, the bump was the size of walnut. The tumor had to be cut out in pieces, found to be malignant. The surgeon wanted to do a total parotidectomy, the oncologist said I only needed radiation tx.

      Treatments

      Radiotherapy Too Soon to Tell
I get a PET/CT in April, 6 month follow-up to see if there are any malignancy cells.
      Surgery Too Soon to Tell
The last PET/CT showed remaining malignant cells and malignancy in a very small node. That's way the radiation tx.
      Chemotherapy Working / Worked
I am now bald. The day after I have the 5 hours of IV chemo, I have to get a Neulasta shot. Much pain in knees to feet and wrists to hands. Visit from friends help.
    • Close Anxiety

Cancer survivor of parotid gland malignant tumor. Partial resection. 6 months out Radiation Therapy. Still tired, weak, anxious.

      Treatments

      Breathwork Somewhat Helpful
I practice breathing exercises while I do Yoga.
      Meditation Working / Worked
I meditate while I make wall hangings of cloth, when I plant and water flowers, when I cook. I only watch the headlines of the news, the rest is overwhelming.
      Positive Thinking Working / Worked
I use affirmations to boost my self-esteem. I wrote a book for my husband about things that make me happy, so he can read it when I'm no longer alive. It's helped greatly.
