Close Bipolar Disorder

I'm a 40 year-old wife and mom.Our son is 4.I first became depressed at age 18 and was diagnosed with Major Clinical Depression.For years I went to many Dr.s and therapists,and took many meds.I would sometimes seem better,but then I always got really down again.In 2007 at age 38 I became suicidal and was hospitalized.I finally got a correct diagnosis of BP 2.I have a new Dr. and am being treated correctly for my illness.I'm in a low,scary place and not stable yet.Sure could use support!;)

Treatments

Ativan Working / Worked

I found Ativan very effective as a breakthrough medication for anxiety, and also for sleep.

BuSpar Not Working

worked for a while for depression and anxiety before I was on a mood stabilizer

Celebrex Not Working

in combination with a mood stabilizer it was not effective as anantidepressant

Depakote Not Working

allergic (reaction: rash)

Effexor Too Soon to Tell

I just started taking this medication

Elavil Not Working

in combination with a mood stabilizer it was not effective as an antidepressant

Group Therapy Working / Worked

Very positive. I learned a lot. It was encouraging.

Lamictal Not Working

could not tolerate side effects

Lithium Not Working

Lithium Toxicity: My body did not process the Lithium and it built up to toxic levels. I had renal failure and dialysis. I was in ICU for 3 days. My recovery period was 8 weeks.

Paxil Working / Worked

Worked well for a long time for depression and anxiety as well as OCD symptoms before I was put on a mood stabilizer.

Seroquel Too Soon to Tell

So far Seroquel has helped a little with sleep and depression, but with mood stabilization, it is too soon to tell.

Tegretol Not Working

could not tolerate side effects

Topamax Somewhat Helpful

I am unable to reach the high enough dosage that I think is needed, because at that dose I cannot tolerate the side effects. Plus, it is supposed to prevent headaches, and I don't think it is helping that either.

Wellbutrin Not Working

was not effective as an antidepressant
