I am pissed! We have no prescription. My insurance company is driving me crazy. It's been a week now. I've been on the phone with the insurance company and the doctors office fpr hours a day. The doctor needs to fax something to the stupid insurance group about the prescription. It's $175.00 with no insurance and I can't do that! Why can't they do this simple task? I saw the paper the doc needs to fill out and fax and it would take 20 seconds for him or his nurse to do. AAAHHHHH!!!! Every morning when my son has his first episode of the day I can't help but think WHERE ARE THE MEDS! They probably think I'm the crazy one, calling a couple times everyday. Then when they tell me the doctor isn't in on Tuesdays...Why didn't he do it Monday? do they think this isn't a big deal? When my sanity is on the line it IS a big deal. ARGH!
Thanks for letting me vent.

It's called prior authorization...and it means the medicine your dr prescribed isn't on your insurance's formulary (a list of preferred drugs) So, they want your dr to tell them that you need this specific medicine, and not one on their forumlary before they will pay for it. I know it sucks. It can take up to a week or more sometimes. But usually drs offices have a designated nurse to deal with the insurance companies, it's hardly ever the actual dr doing it, so maybe ask them if a nurse can just do it? I'm not usre, but just hang in there...it will get worked out. Just a heads up, the next time you talk to your insurance make sure you arent going to have to go through this everytime you get the prescription. Because of the kind of medicine, you can't have refills on the prescription, so make sure they aren't going to give you the run around next time too.
