Hi, everyone, quick message--I saw a neurosurgeon today who ordered a discogram. Now I have to wait for workers …
What a difference a day makes!
I went to the spinal specialist today, he's the one my neurosurgeon referred me to for a discogram.
He went over my Xrays taken in 2005 and my MRI.
He told me my back was shot. He showed me where one of my discs had ruptured and leaked the fluid out and where my scholiosis has caused a curve at the top of my back too. He said there's a structural change due to the scholiosis and I also have 2 bulging discs. He said I have a lot of problems that will need to be addressed. Validation!
He also said he saw a problem with my right hip and has ordered more Xrays to show any changes from the ones taken in '05.
For now, he's ordered a round of epidural injections and said if I don't find a marked relief after 2 of them, we'll discuss surgery. I'll be going to the original neurosurgeon if that's what I need to have done.
He said he can already see where the torn disc would cause exposed nerves and bring about a positive reading on the discogram. We didn't discuss the discogram any further today.
I'm just to have more Xrays and then the epidural injections.
I'm not happy that my back is "shot," but I do feel better knowing that there is something there and it's going to be treated.
He seemed like a really good doctor and I feel that with 4 doctors in my corner, something good has to come out of this.
So, that's where I stand now. I knew my right hip was bothering me, but I didn't realize it was something he could see on the Xray. Hopefully, they'll sort it all out, and I'll be good as new! I actually have a feeling of hope today.
I wish you all a peaceful pain free evening.
Hope...It's a fleeting feeling, but a wonderful one. Love to all, Kathy

OMG, Kathy, the discomfort you are enduring... 'Shot backs' run in my family, and so far, I've managed to escape anything major, but you sound like members of my family. I'm sending some extra Weeble Mojo to your doctors, to guide them.

I understand the fleeting feeling. But validation! Yes! Not good news but not bad. There is a direction to go. So glad. It feels so good to know whats going on. I know you were really waiting for this. God bless you

Oh my dear dear OD, I too feel hope for you like never before!! To have your suffering so validated takes just the tiniest bit of the sting out of it, I would imagine...? And to know that there is surgery that can be done is also very heartening. I'm so glad it is a neurosurgeon. Some Orthopods like to think they can do backs, but are not as successful in the examples I witnessed.
My dear, enjoy the high and celebrate!
My heart is singing, I think I'll drink a wee dram of sweet wine in your honor. I really am so very very happy for you.
All my Love,
your OM.

It must be a great relief to have a better understanding of just what is causing you so much pain. That is just great news, Kathy. Knowing what is going and why is so important. I'm really happy for you and the promise of relief that is to come soon.
Hugs, Fred

Part of the battle is just finding the origin of the pain so it sounds like your new doctor is on the right track...at last, some hope for better days ahead! Happy to hear that things just may start to turn around for you. Take care, hope it all works out as it should.

I get what you're saying. It's relief that you don't feel you have to justify or prove what you know to be true -- it's visible on the xray. I am so sorry that you are going thru such physical pain, and hope with you that you will, with this new medical team, find some relief. And SOOON! I know there were some....concerning posts re: epidurals on that thread, but I also know people who have been greatly helped with them. *hug* All my best to you, Kathy xoxo Lisa
Finally
Kathy, Isn`t it great to be able to know exactly why you`re in pain & that drs can see and treat it? My back is shot too and it was so awesome when the dr told me why it was bothering me so much. Most people don`t understand till they gothru it themselves.Big Hugs!!!!!!!!

Validation & hope, all in one day! How cool is that? I'm so sorry about your back & hip, but I sure understand the feeling of "at last, an answer as to WHY I hurt so much." I sure hope the injections work for you so you can get relief right away. Bright blessings & good cheer to you!
