We struck a compromise... Mood
Friday, June 27, 2008 | A General Update story

I went and saw my regular doctor today, the health freak.

And I went in with both barrels blazing because I just knew he was going to try to put me on some supplements to treat my thyroid.  He's really big on supplements, a healthy diet, excercise and all that stuff. People like that make me nervous.

I told him I'd had my surgery and I was no longer taking Norco or Neurontin and my blood pressure is still really high.  He's really happy to see that I had the surgery and I'm no longer taking those medications. He prescribed the new pain reliever that's working so well along with Synthroid and in a nod to his expertise, I went ahead and let him talk me into his supplements also.

He explained that my thyroid problem originated in my immune system so yes, my thyroid needs to be treated, but my immune system needs to be bolstered.

He hasn't steered me wrong yet. So I'm "integrating" traditional as well as complementary therapies. Between us, I'm placing my confidence in the traditional, but if I take them both at the same time, who's the wiser??

I found homeopathic stuff worked very little for me. Some made me ill. I have found some supplements for my GI tract that work good. Good that your trying. Tom is going to try a low thyroid medication maybe to help lower his. Last time the medicine made him sick and was too strong made him feel worse. I got to see my doc next week to get refills on all my meds and be "looked" over. I hate I only get like 2 refills at a time on these scrips. Can't afford too many doc visits. He wants to see how I'm doing on my new anti-depressant. Congratulations on making it so far friend. You are a trooper campaigning for your own good health. God bless you friend, love Jennay Tom & Clarke

I'm right there with you: I'll do a little of the vitamin stuff, maybe have an ion foot bath or some acupuncture, but ultimately I'm a Western medicine kinda patient. I think the decision had to have been made a long time before I was at the deciding age about which way I was gonna go with this health thing. Was I gonna live off of chemicals and repair with chemicals, or was I gonna do it all with alfalfa sprouts and lady bug urine?
Drink plenty of water. That seems to be the biggest health boost for me.

I'm interested in both homeopathic and traditional. Quite a juggling game your doing there, but seems to be working for you, or will work for you. ;) ahhhhh, doctors, ya can't live with 'em and ya can't shoot 'em.

I am in favor of supplememnts, and natural meds. I plan to put myself on some heavy duty stuff, if I get past the latest hurdle alive, that is, and can get back to work soon.

My dr is big on supplements; I take them, but I still research everything new as he adds it in.
