I sat in my isolated hospital room, watching the olympics, and I thought of just one more reason that I'm proud of being Canadian.... after going through RAI, I am so thankful that the health care system here takes care of their patients. I couldn't imagine having to do that treatment out of hospital, or having to be billed for it. I remember reading other blogs on here from American patients who had to fight to get the treatment in hospital, or whose insurance wouldn't cover the hospital stay. I feel for you all so much when I realize how well I've been taken care of.
I'm sure many of you have seen the documentry "sicko" by Michael Moore, and I have to say that, as contraversial as he may be in your country, he makes sense to the rest of the world. I don't understand how a country who works so hard for personal freedoms (and just works so hard as a nation), has accepted a health care system that caters to the rich. Noone should be denied this critical treatment. It's your life, it's time to take it back!
So I was having some side effects form the Accutane (acne medication) I've been on the last 5 months or so. Loss of appetite, sad, crying, nausea, joint pain, My scar from my recent surgery was not healing. Then I got this knee pain which spread up the muscles of my leg and made it so excruciating to walk that I had to be confined to the couch and rent a wheelchair for a week. There was no swelling or discolouration, the only thing 'medically tested'w rong with me was that my white cell count was high- fighting inflamation. They couldn't necessarily contribute this to a side effect of the med even though it warns of joint pain. I even saw a specialist. I got an email out to my church group to pray and that day the pain started to ease. God is good. It took about 4 days until I felt totally normal again. The doctors can't explain why I healed- but I know it was just by the grace of God. Now I'm off to the hospital for my RAI treatment tomorrow. Praying for absolutely no side effects from that!
