    About Me

I live with my husband of 41 years, in the peaceful country near a large lake. Being an elementary teacher for about 12 years, I became victim to bi-polar. This was a real crisis in our family as our two children were young then. We had little outside help, so we four worked together to make our life work and function. During this time, I had to learn to walk again, talk in complete sentences and in years to come, I did gain strength to do small jobs in our home. One of the things I did was to read all I could about managing our home and my illness. Our daughter was age 8 and started lots of work in our home with the help of her dad and sometimes her brother. That began 25 years back and now I have kidney failure due some meds I took back then. I have been in the care of a kidney specialist all these years and am doing peritoneal dialysis quietly in my home for the past few months. My doctor and nurse are great. This has been a long HARD roller coaster road for all of us. Each of us face it differently, of course. I am thankful for God for sending various supportive people in my life at different times. It only took a few at a time to be all I needed. After doing dialysis, I feel better than I have in years - getting the toxins out of my body. My mental health staff have been very supportive all these years. Enough said.....

    Interests

My interests are shallow at times, including piano, enjoying our grandkids at times, some crafts, getting back to sewing and mending, light housework, decorating shows, reading slightly, taking time to pray for others, etc.

    • Close Dialysis

Being bi-polar over 25 years, I was given a med back then that caused me liver and kidney damage. Finally mental health found that I was toxic and one doctor sent me instantly to my kidney specialist. We have watched this situation for over 19 years, with the last 3 years being very hard. We were partial caretakers of my husband's mother. When I was told over 3 years back that I needed dialysis, my husband and I went instantly to the dialysis dietitian. At this point, I began changing my diet.

      Treatments

      Dialysis Working / Worked
My left arm did not work for hemo, so I have been doing peritoneal for the past 4 months and having success. I have phone contact with a very good nurse who relays any information to my kidney specialist.

      Treatments

      Group Therapy Working / Worked
I enjoyed group therapy for a short time. It seemed to bother me more, hearing the problems of others. I see my counselor monthly and doing well.
      Lithium Not Working
I took Lithium over 25 years and it worked fine for a while. My test results were not watched closely and I developed kidney and liver damage. I am now on peritoneal dialysis after 19 years with my kidney specialist. I am feeling much better now. Thank God!
      Seroquel Working / Worked
I take 1/2 tab nightly to stop my racing thoughts and it has worked very nicely for me for years.
      Tegretol Working / Worked
After getting off Lithium, I took Tegretol for several years. At that time, I lost control of my body temperature. It was like I had an inner and outer temperature. I couldn't tell when I was cold or hot without extra help to level my body temperature.
