I am a 57-year old executive and CEO of a rapidly growing consulting firm specializing in the oil and gas industry. My expanding business causes me to travel regularly as I am in California every month for one-two weeks and then other places in the US for another week. Every now and then, I may be out of the office traveling for 5-6 weeks at a time as will happen this September. The problem is trying to maintain a diet when faced with eating at restaurants where portions are "Americanized" (larger than needed). As Bill Clinton once said while attending the Miss America contest years ago, "So many temptations and so little time."

I'm really sorry to hear about your business... I'm hoping that your getting things on track, everywhere's the same at the moment.. over here they've just reduced V.A.T from 17.5 % to 15%.. to try to encourage people to start spending a bit more... I'm rather worried about that as after the 13 months this has been imposed for I'm totally sure we're gonna get taxed in some other way.. tax over here is gonna hit the roof.. maybe I should consider emigrating..lol... apart from all the money worries I've been ok, losing a little weight slowly (only by not eating haggis) LMAO... I'm just not motivated at the moment... trying to find my mojo somewhere.. have you seen it? I'm thinking I need it back... hope all is well xxxx
I've not seen you around for a while, where are you hiding? hope all's well and your having a fantastic time xxx

I was actually a skinny kid and adult through my 20's. In fact, I weighted 117 pounds when I joined the Army in 1967. I weighted 140 pounds five yeasr later when I got out. I put on weight after getting outof the Army when I discovered the joy of cooking (French to be specific). I began to balloon up to over 200. In the early 80's, I went through a health phase where I lost my weight and started exercising and running regularly. I got down to about 160, an ideal weight, and was extremely fit. In fact I recall, with fond memories, a sales man fitting me for shirts telling me I would need an "atheletic build" shirt, which I had never heard of. Apparently, it is wide at the top and narrorow at the bottom (it is flipped now). Boy, do I miss those days. Unfortunately, over the years, I got lazy and stopped working out and started eating too much. I don't snack a lot but I do enjoy portions and seconds. I hve become a victim of too many a culinary delight. I have gotten up to 325. My wife underwent a successful gastic bypass operation two years ago and has lost 120 pounds. This is not an option with me as it would require 6 weeks of recovery with no travel. I have lost my body weight many times over the years through one diet after another but the issue is keeping it off. I lost 60 pounds on the Scarsdale Diet years ago and 50 plus on the Atkins Diet a few years back. I can usaully develop the discipline to lose the weight--it is the sustainability that is the challenge. I do not smoke or drink (I drink a six pack over the course of 6 months). I need some routine support to make sure I do not slip again. I have restarted with a good solid diet and am exercising 5 times a week. I have lost 10 pounds in the last month. I received my annual physical yesterday after being on the diet for a month and all my reading were normal with the exception of my tryclycirides which were slightly elevated. Now I have to continue losing weight and develop new habits to keep it from returning.
Was a skinning kid and young adult. I picked up weight after I got out of the service and started to lea top cook (too well). I am the heaviest I have ever been but have made a major resolution to lose weight through life style change and proper dieting and exercise. I join the DS Dieting & Weight group a few weeks ago.
