Hang in there, you will figure out eventully why you use shopping as a cover up for issues you may not want to deal with in your life right now. This is the way it was for me. Don't get into thousands of dollars of debt before seeking help if need be. I finally went to counseling after 90,000.00 in debt. I have realized the cloths, jewerly, purses, shoes, etc. are not what I really needed. I just needed to love myself and deal with a lot of childhood trauma. This may be a crazy response for you, but it's my story in a nutshell. I havent' spent for 8 months and continue to pay my debt off. I will say after dealing with the demons shopping isn't all that anymore. God Bless you, Bonnie

    • Close Shopping Addiction

I compulsively spend money/shop. Not only do I spend money when i don't have it, I also buy the most expensive new gadgets and things with little regard to my finances. I then later sell off what I've bought for much less just to buy something else. I'm never satisfied and shortly after I've bought things I don't care that I have them and regret buying them in the first place. I also spend far too much money on fast food when I could easily buy cheaper from the grocery store and cook.

    • Close Smoking Addiction & Recovery

I have been smoking about a pack a day for the last three years. when i first started i told myself i could stop at any time, and would quit before one year. well three years later that obviously wasn't true. i have tried many times and many different ways to quit smoking. hopefully this time i will put the pack down for good

      Treatments

      Cold Turkey Not Working
didn't work for me, although many people tout this as the ONLY way to quit. nicotine is just too strong for me to overcome without SOME kind of help
      Commit Lozenge Not Working
sucked. burned, tasted horrible, made me cough alot, have to spit every three seconds, gives you way too much nicotine, sweaty, heart racing. didn't like this method at all
      Hard Candy Working / Worked
or pretty much anything to keep you mouth and hands occupied. i currently use the stylus to my cell phone, but toothpicks, lollipops, etc work well too.
      Nicotine Gum Not Working
pretty much as bad as the lozenge, only burned worse. was like chewing on black pepper gum. way too much nicotine
      Nicotine Patch Somewhat Helpful
i have both good and bad to say about the patch. if you put it on in the morning and wear it all day, it CAN drastically reduce your physical need for a cig. however, it does NOTHING for the mental aspect so you will of course want to smoke anyway. along with willpower and distractions this is a very good option for quitting. will give you messed up dreams or keep you awake if you wear it to bed.
Support Groups Too Soon to Tell
just joined one. have no idea whether it will help or not
      Wellbutrin Somewhat Helpful
i am currently on bupropion, the generic for zyban. while i can tell it is helping me with the side effects off quitting, it's no wonder drug. still very hard to fight the urge to smoke. on a side note, this medicine has helped alot with my social anxiety, and has overall put me in a better, much more positive mood.
      Willpower Working / Worked
this is absolutely the MOST important treatment for quitting. you HAVE to want to quit in order to do so. if you cannot maintain self control, then nothing else in this world is gonna keep you from lighting up that next cig. one thing to remember is if you are trying to quit, that YOU don't want to smoke. YOU don't actually want to have that cigarette. your ADDICTION wants it. your body is making your brain THINK you want a cig when in reality you don't want it at all.
