Thank you for your kind words in response to my post in re: God and the 12 steps. A huge CONGRATULATIONS to you on reaching 100 days!!! Don't you just love those nice round numbers?!! xoxoxo!!
you are welcome, but then that is what it's all about, supporting each other as much as we can. we can do it alone, but it is harder. It is much easier with others at our side to hear our cries of help and feel our moments of hurt with us. So hang in there and stay with this forum.
Hugs - just want you to know that you are not alone in your thoughts. In recovery it is very easy for us as addicts to get on the bad wagon and say THIS or THAT is the only way and if you don't do it this way it just won't work. It's really fatalistic and I don't believe this for a second. I am currently attending GA but it is not for everyone - it's ok to question things, it's ok to keep thinking as an intelligent human being. If it doesn't sound right it probably isn't. Delivery is everything and the way that things are interpreted by individuals can really change your experience. I just want you to know that you are not alone. I work at my recovery every day - once a week I attend a meeting, I journey here, I have tried counselling, this didn't work for me but it works for many - for me I found it hard to relate to a non addict who really know nothing about my addiction personally, this was a personal choice. It sounds as if you are doing really well. You have taken inventory of you and your actions and you are working on these, this is all we can ask for - change happens but not over night. HUgs to you Suzi
You sound just like me. The key to our success is knowing and understanding ourselves, which a good counselor can help us do. So, i'm glad you have decided to get that kind of help. Stay with this forum also. GA is plain and simple, not for everyone. There is another approach called "Smart Recovery". See if you have a group in your area. Meanwhile, your oeverall awareness is good and don't ever get complacent. My last day gambled was 4-10-2008 and I still have the urges and triggers. Difference is that i'm in counseling also and have learned how to defuse these. Main thing now, for us both, is to love ourselves and be good to ourselves. The latter is difficult, but necessary. Being good to myself means going on long walks on the beach, swimming, getting a massage and eating an occassional banana split. Stay with us and have a great day.
