About Me
I am married 13 years with 3 boys--13, 10-1/2, &9. Our oldest has type 1 Diabetes, middles son is low-maintenance typical, and youngest has autism AND type 1 Diabetes. Like to read & bake. Stevie (autistic son), is a true joy and a challenge!! We are born-again Christians. Husband drives for UPS. Our boys are wild monkeys most of time!!

Close Autism / Autism Spectrum
Stevie was diagnosed at 2-1/2 w/ PDD after many illnesses,antibiotics, 2 minor surgeries, 2 hospital stays 4-illness,and after 1 yr. of wondering what's wrong? Was diagnosed at 3-1/4 yrs. with Diabetes. Been a long road since then!! Doing way better, but very stubborn! On no meds, except insulin.
Treatments
- ABA Somewhat Helpful
- Teachers at school use this a LITTLE bit 4 a few things. Doing OK.
- Behavior Management Working / Worked
- Last year (05-06) was horrible!! Absolute tantrums that U wouldn't believe--school did 2 (yes, 2) behavior assessments & plans which worked. Now he has calmed down lots.
- Early Intervention Working / Worked
- Occupational Therapy Working / Worked
- Great for Stevie--he has lots of sensory needs.
- Picture / Word Schedules Working / Worked
- This is the basis of his world--school uses the TEACCH method,which is mostly that.
- Speech Therapy Working / Worked
- Tons of speech therapy since he was 2-1/2!! Finally started talking a little at 5, now talks (slurred) about everything, at home and school.
Close Diabetes Type 1
Have 2 sons with Type I. Vinny is 12, got it when he was 5. Stevie, also autistic, is 8, diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 3.
Treatments
- Lantus Not Working
- NovoLog Working / Worked
- Same as Humalog--works well.
- Insulin (Regular and NPH) Working / Worked
- Works pretty good.
