    About Me

I am a graduate student working on my doctorate in physics. I am a returning student -- I was formerly a high school physics teacher. I am a rather normal, girl next-door type, with a very conservative nature. I have now been married for six years this August, and am preparing for a career change.

    • Close Diets & Weight Maintenance

I have struggled with my weight since I started undergraduate studies. Before starting college I maintained a healthy weight and lifestyle, but since I have stuggled to keep healthy eating habits and have gained an average of 8 pounds per year -- though it can fluctuate wildly throughout the year.

      Treatments

      Prozac Somewhat Helpful
It really helped to get me out of a depression slump but since I have not needed it to keep on track. I find that by changing my diet and excercise I have been able to manage my depression without prozac without the symptoms of decreased sexual drive and periods of extreme lethargy during the day.
      Writing Too Soon to Tell
I am trying to keep a journal of my successes and failures in my weight struggles and am hopeful that they will be helpful and keep me on track.

      Treatments

6 Week Body Makeover Somewhat Helpful
It was a good way to get going and set up a routine. I did not have much to lose at the time, though, so results were quick and easy. Now, though, I have considerably more to lose and the same results are not being seen over night (like they seemed to before). Still, it is helping me to get into a set routine and maintain a good level of energy.
      Elliptical Trainer Not Working
The elliptical trainer, for me, simply builds muscle and tones. This is great, however, I am needing to lose weight and it is not helping me do that. It is not right for me, though I will definitely return to it once I reach my goal and am simply maintaining my weight/health.
      Kickboxing Somewhat Helpful
Great workout to relieve stress! You totally feel exhausted afterward, but the next day I always felt more energized and ready to go again. It is difficult to do on your own though, and once I was unable to take more classes, I couldn't get back into it. I tried the Tae Bo tapes, but it just isn't the same as being in the gym atmosphere and have your friends there in a support system.
      LA Weight Loss Not Working
I did the LA Weight Loss by phone/home and it was not right for me. The support network just didn't seem to be there and I kept getting frustrated. Also, without the one on one consultations, I felt I did not have enough guidance in what foods were good substitutes and my small accomplishments were not recognized -- which is key when first starting out.
