Hi amanda!! Thanks for writing me!! Its always nice to meet others that are going through the ame struggles with PKD! I am 31 and have known about mine since i was 23 but started having probs when i was 19 and had 3 cyst then and was not diagnosed till 23 when my ultrasound showed a whole lot more and now there is well over a 100 cyst and my kidneys are huge. I also produce uric acid stones. I take lisinopril for my high blood pressure. You were saying something about your heart valves ?? How did you know there was something wrong?? Also just curious does anyone else in your family have PKD. So far that we know of just me but none of my family has been tested cuz of insurance reasons.. K talk to ya soon

Close Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)
When I was 18 I had had really high blood pressure and the doctor couldn't figure out why someone my age would have this kind of problem. I knew what the problem was. I have a very large family history of PKD. I have been on multiple HTN medications trying to keep my blood pressure under control. I want to have another baby but I am secretely afraid that something bad will happen since my 1st pregnancy wasn't that easy. I try to think positive but I can't help but be afraid.
Treatments
- Methyldopa Working / Worked
- The Aldomet seems to be the only medicine that I have tried so far that keeps my BP down. I tried Lisinopril but my BP seemed to yo-yo alot and it make my heart race. The only drawbacks to the aldomet are: (1) It is a beta blocker, which I was told is not too good for kidney function, (2) It makes me sleepy, and (3) I have to take it three times a day.
