    About Me

I am almost 62 years old and this spring I changed doctors because of my husband's insistance. The new doc went through all of my old tests, ordered new ones, and told me I was diabetic. This was quite a shock to me, for I have regularly gone to my old doctor each year, had tests run, and she told me everything was fine: "just stay on high-fiber, low fat and you should have no problems." My new doc put me on Atkins to begin with (not to stay on), told me to lose a total of 40 pounds, and he would see me in 2 months. So far, I have lost 17 pounds, I walk each day for 30 minutes with friends, and have now modified atkins to a more balanced diet, although my system really did well with the "shock" treatment. I have not found any community support of diabetes, so I am looking online for info and support.

Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
We have no family around here but my husband and friends have been TERRIFIC! They are encouraging and talk me through the bad times.
      Metformin Working / Worked
Started on 50 mg and when I met resistance on bringing my numbers down I called the office and asked if I could take 1 more pill each day. Now I take Metformin 50 mg morning and night. Numbers are still high so I suspect diet and exercise need more work.
