    About Me

I am 37 and I run a commercial construction company. I am in a relationship, never married and no children. I've been suffering from Panic attacks since about 2004. The first one was brought on by a combination of cold medicine and alergy medicine. It was so bad it put me in the hospital for 3 days. Since then I've struggled off and on, but mostly kept them at bay by changing my diet, exercise and therapy. It's just been recently that I can't seem to get up the energy to do anything and the anxiety is worse than ever before.

    Interests

I love being social, and this disorder really keeps me from what I love. Volleyball, basketball, wine, cooking, art,

    • Close Anxiety

I have been experiencing panic attacks since 2004. No one could tell me what was happening to me at first so it was horrible and got to the point where I couldn't leave my apartment. I finally moved home, started educating myself and changed my diet and lifestyle and the panic attacks for the most part went away. for the past couple of years I would only get them under extremely stressful situations or when I was run down or would fly. Recently I am having them quite often, almost daily and not sure why. My doctor won't prescribe anything for me and wants me to see a Psych, which I don't want to do. I'd like to not depend on meds for survival.

      Treatments

      Effexor Somewhat Helpful
Effexor helped numb things until I was able to get the panic attacks under control. But it didnt solve the problem and I hated how I felt. It was horrible coming off even though I ony took it for 2 mo.
Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful
My family is supportive but they dont know what it feels like and I dont understand myself why I am having them so its hard to have them help when I dont know whats going on myself.
    • Close Panic Attacks

I have been experiencing panic attacks since 2004. No doctor really spent the time to explain what was heppening to me, they just gave me effexor and xanax for when I had an attack and sent me on my way. I educated myself and got off the effexor and just kept the xanax for extreme situations which only happened about 1 every couple of months. Until recently. I react badly to most medications and would prefer a natural route.

      Treatments

      Ativan Somewhat Helpful
I only recently was prescribed this and it worked a bit, but I only take it when the attack is coming on.
      Effexor Somewhat Helpful
It helped, but made me completely numb and had horrible side effects. I weined myself off and went the natural route.
      Klonopin Working / Worked
This seemed to be the best solution for when the attacks were coming on. I only took it about 1 x's every 2 weeks.
      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
I've met with therapists but no one has really given me any inisght as to how to solve the anxiety issues. They don't give out any homework or exercises to work on.
      Xanax Working / Worked
It worked but put me to sleep
