    About Me

I am a 19 year old girl from a small town in coastal Maine. I was finally diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. This diagnosis took me at least 6 years to get. When I was a freshman in high school I was hospitalized with ITP, which come to find out was the lupus attacking my blood platelets. I was always having what I now know where flares, where I was not even able to get up off the couch on my own when I got there. I became this teenage girl who had to have her mother help her do the simple things in life and I didn't know why, nor did I like it. All the doctors I went to looked at me like I was crazy, there is nothing wrong with this young person, she MUST be lying. But I was finally given the correct blood tests and here I am. Shortly after my SLE diagnosis, I was also diagnosed with Lupus-induced Fibromyalgia. I am learning to live with them, though it can be quite hard. With nobody around to talk to about it who truly understands what you are going through, it can be difficult at times. I try to keep everything in my life the same, keep the same activities, but I also have to learn to watch myself. I no longer can push myself past what my limitations are, and I am getting used to that as well. I'm just glad I know what I have now, and I'm really not crazy after all. :)

    Interests

I love being on the water, kayaking, fishing, swimming and camping. I also love photography. I like to be with friends, go to the movies, listen to music and read.

      Treatments

      Methotrexate Too Soon to Tell
I was just put on this medication last week, and have to give myself weekly injections. I am not too thrilled about having to inject myself, or the side effects. It already makes me very nauseous and dizzy, but I am hoping it will eventually help to relieve my terrible flares.
      Medrol Working / Worked
I have been put on this a few times, before it was used to treat my allergies/asthma, but now it is used for my SLE. It works much better than Prednisone, which did not do too much to help me. It always makes me eat everything I look at, but it helps with the pain and inflammation, so it works for me.

      Treatments

      Cyclobenzaprine Working / Worked
I was put on Cyclobenzaprine to treat my Lupus-induced Fibromyalgia. I take it each night before bed and it helps with the fatigue, though it does not make it disappear of course. If more than is necessary is taken drowsiness/dizziness will be present when you wake up. It is very helpful in assisting your tightened/affected muscles relax in order to get some much needed rest.
