I am a 45-year old stay-at-home mom, with a husband, a 17 year old son and a 14-year old daughter with Williams Syndrome, and one cat. I studied architecture at the U of U before my first pregnancy, but have been totally involved as a mom and home-maker ever since our son was born. I had no idea, going into it, how overwhelming motherhood would be. It has been both the hardest and the most wonderful thing I have ever done. I am lucky to have a supportive, patient, and kind-hearted husband, and a couple of the best kids ever.

Hi! Thank you for writting on my journal. It is so nice to hear from someone who has been though it. I guess I just need to hear that everything is going to be OK, but from someone who knows! It sounds like you have a nice relationship with your daughter. I love to hear more about her if you ever want to share.
Hey! Thank you so much for writning to me. I haven't met anyone else with a WS child and I would really like to get to know you. I have so many questions. Chelsea has heart valve stenosis and they think she will get bad around 12.... meaning her heart will enlarge, and we know what that means. It was hard to hear. She is a joy to us and she has us laughing so much every day. I would like to ask you some questions sometime. We are leaving on a romantic weekend today and mom will keep the kids. Blessings to her!!! ANyway, I will talk to you when I get home and look forward to getting to know you. Heidi ps Im 43, have another daughter that is 6 more later!!
My 14-year old daughter is experiencing many of the usual problems associated with being a teenager. I am continually concerned with her education options (she has been at a Montessori school for the last 8 years, and now I am planning to home school her for her 9th grade year before placing her in public high school starting in 10th grade), and am also concerned with her menstrual cycle, which is giving us grief at this point in her life. I am hoping to learn how other families have coped with their special needs daughters' periods. I am also facing the fact that, although our son will grow up and leave home soon, our daughter may not live independently for many years to come, or possibly never. My daughter and I have been 'joined at the hip' since she was born, and I'm not sure how that will work out as we both grow older. I'm hope that she will develop her own life as she enters adulthood. Its such an unknown situation...I hope we handle it the right way.
