Close COPD & Emphysema
I just returned from a very difficult visit home (upstate NY) - my Mom had her corotid artery cleared of the 90% blockage. None of us - Mom, or my 5 sisters, were prepared for the results (based on the literature and the surgeons feedback) for the outcomes - extremely swollen and bruised neck, and a fat oxygen tank. They say it's temporary but I just don't know...she never was seen by a pulmonary specialist (her PA thinks she's god and has been treating her for COPD for 6 months) before the surgery so maybe she should have been on the O2 the whole time? She's always been a fighter and optimisitic but when I left her this morning, she looked broken and I couldn't do anything to comfort her. Is this the beginning of the end? I need to understand more about this and all I have is a lot of web site info. If anyone can add some sanity I'd greatly appreciate it. Mary Kay
