ARGH
I haven't written in a bit and thought I would get a few things down. Lately, life has been odd to say the …
Today I walked to get the newspaper and I looked over at the new goose pen and low and behold one of the geese was running at me! It escaped! I called to it and didn't see how it could have gotten out of its pen, the other 4 were still in the pen and this goose was just as happy as can be eating the grass on this side of the fence. Lucky for us the goose likes us and comes to us.
However, getting this wayward goose back in the pen was hard as soon as I opened the make shift gate another goose came running out of the pen and I had to scoot to get it back in before the others escaped as well. I shooed it in and had to get the original one back in, which was a problem as it had no intention of going back in the pen. I used the trelis thingy that I set up as a gate to help extend my arm to get it into the gate opening and then I get yelled at by all the geese, boy do they complain!
They all wanted out of the pen, last night I took them all out of the pen to go to a large puddle they can swim in in another part of the yard and I wanted them to mow down some grass that was getting to long and hard to mow in that area. So I let them out and they had a great time.
Now they think they want out all the time! So I haven't figured out how the original goose escaped but I will keep my eyes on them and hopefully they will stay in the pen, it is mostly so other animals don't get at them to easily. Though the pen isn't really animal proof if something wants in at them. So it was an exciting morning so far.
The baby gosling that I was worried about is still around and seems to be doing better. It is still weak and doesn't seem as active at the other ones, in the wild this one wouldn't have made it, I had fed it the first day and it is at least running from time to time and finding the food containers now. It is not the sharpest tool in the shed though. I hope it picks up fast what it needs to survive as the others will soon peck at it if it doesn't act better soon. So we have 11 new goslings and 5 bigger ones in the yard. I hope they all get along when we put them together in about 3 weeks.
Soon the chickens will be in the freezer (which we have to buy) They are starting to crow and that is a good sign as to when to do the deed. I got pecked yesterday and the darn rooster drew blood as I was giving them fresh water! The littler bugger! actually the big bugger! They are very heavy and large meat birds. Like bowling balls. Bred for meat and they just sit and eat, we have a huge feeder that they eat all the corn and meal in one day! It is amazing. I don't like thinking about the putting in the freezer idea but that is what they are for. I shouldn't get attached. Which is easier said then done, even if they draw blood.
I'm very tired and very sore, yesterday I sat in the grass with the big geese in the yard and spend hours outside with them. Sitting on the ground really hurts my back and legs, but I wanted to spend time with the geese so they don't forget to know who I am and come when I need them to come, but they are like teenagers and seem to have selective hearing.
I just started to layout my pattern for a skirt and I will start cutting today, I have wanted to get to work on this pattern for some time and now I finally have. Toodles for today, hugs!
