About Me
My name is Mindy. I am 35 yrs old, married and have a daughter who is 6 and a step-daughter who is 12. I am trying to complete my bachelor's degree in Anthropology at Wichita State University with a minor in Criminal Justice/Forensics. I am a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Wichita and wish I could be a more active member; although my youngest does go to school there and I am on the PTL Board (but it is a struggle sometimes!)
Interests
I like to read, write and draw; pretty much do anything that is creative. I like to crochet and make jewelry out of hemp (when my condition allows me too!!). I love watching movies and spending time with my family. Before Fibromyalgia I used to love to walk in the park in the mornings when it was so peaceful, now I can barely make it to the end of the block -lol-

Close Fibromyalgia
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgai and chronic myofascial pain in 2004 and had to quit working. I have also suffered from migraine headaches since the age of 14 and they are the main debilitating factor to my illness. I also have two bulging discs in my cervical vertebrae.
Treatments
- Physical Therapy Too Soon to Tell
- Very painful the day after treatment and it is hard to go twice a week and pay a $20 copay each time.
- Nerve Blocks Somewhat Helpful
- The injections helped at first but then begin to wear off almost immediately. Epidurals to my spine had same effect.
Close Migraine Headaches
I was diagnosed with Migraines at the age of 14 and since being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia three years ago they have gotten worse. Medicine rarely works, only complete bed rest and darkness.
Treatments
- Amerge Not Working
- Worthless
- Aspirin Somewhat Helpful
- Helps at times if taken along with tylenol.
- Fioricet Not Working
- Didn't work.
- Fiorinol Not Working
- Didn't work.
- Imitrex Somewhat Helpful
- Worked for awhile then just stopped.
- Maxalt Somewhat Helpful
- Sometimes it helps to stop a migraine from progressing further; other times is like I took a sugar pill.
Open Chronic Pain
I have Fibromyalgia and chronic Migraine headaches as well as chronic myofasical pain in my upper back and neck. I have two bulging discs in my cervical vertebrae and I live with pain daily.
Treatments
- Chiropractic Adjustment Somewhat Helpful
- Only helped a little with the discs to give them more space but the adjustment didn't last long.
- Cymbalta Not Working
- Made me sick to my stomach and didn't work as well as Paxil for controlling my anxiety.
- Oxycodone Somewhat Helpful
- Found that I had to take it everyday or would get "rebound" pains even worse.
- Tramadol Working / Worked
- Just started taking on 4/12/07. Seems to be working on the muscle pain, don't know yet on the headaches.
Open ADHD / ADD
My step-daughter was diagnosed in 1st grade with ADHD. She lived with her mom until this point, but her mom couldn't handle her so she has been living with her Dad and me since then. She is a very loving, sweet child but can be very difficult at times. We do not get help from mom because she feels that there is "nothing wrong" with her daughter, she can just act right. Very hard to deal with when mom interferes and tells her not to take her meds.
Treatments
- Adderall Somewhat Helpful
- Made her very moody and sad and she lost a lot of weight.
- Concerta Working / Worked
- For the most part this works well to control her symptoms at school and seems to be pretty fast acting.
- Daytrana Not Working
- She used the patches and they were a joke, didn't seem like she was even on meds.
- Focalin Somewhat Helpful
- Seemed to be longer lasting but not as much symptom control; plus cost us twice as much each month because not one of insurance's formulary drugs.
- Ritalin Somewhat Helpful
- Required a second dose to be taken everyday, just not convenient or easy to get her to take two pills a day; would have to take dose at school.
- Strattera Not Working
- Worked ok for focus but not on impulsivety.
Open Sexual Abuse
I was sexually abused by my step-father from the age of 4 to about 16yrs old when he ended up going to jail for DUI's. Before that he admitted in front of my mom he was "attracted" to me which was just another mindgame. I told my mom everything when I was 18 and moving out after high school. Despite this she remained married to him and still is today. He hasn't changed and she is now an alcoholic. Everyone in my family knows know but all act like it never happened.

- How do you forgive someone when they themselves do not admit what happened? I can never trust this man, so how do I forgive?
