Well let me start by saying hello everyone and i am sorry i haven't written in a long time. It has been really hectic. I hope u all are doing better than me. Let me begin with Joshua's surgery. He had it last Tuesday at Connecticut Children's Medical Center. He is the first child in Conn. to have this new surgery in Conn. I guess from what they say he will be inthe medical books. The type of surgery he had is called a Veptr. It is a titainium rib. It's a rod that is hooked to your ribs and helps correct scoliosis as well as other spinal defects. The surgery was 3 hours long and went very smoothly. They kept him in the Pedi ICU over night just as a procaution. They moved him up to the 6th floor where we have been since the 23rd. The Doctor who proformed the surgery did an execllent job on his back. He only opened up a portion of his Spinal Bifida insission which was very good. They had to be careful with that, and also his tethered spinal cord as well. My biggest fear was he was going to come out of this either paralized or . He is neither. he is moving his legs and he is as alive as any of us. He has been sore but he is good. We had a minor set back on Friday. He was fine all morning until about noon time. He went from having a temp of 96 or 97, both of which are nomal, to a temp of 101 then 103 then 104 then 105 then to 106.1. Then it went back to 99.2.We thought he had a shunt infection. He had a stiff neck and his abdomen was really distened. We had general and nero surgery check him out just in case. I was never so scared in my life. Mind u this was all within three hours. We had to use cold washcloths and when that didn't work we did cold packs and when that didn't work we did both. It was very weird. The highest his fever has ever gone is 103.9. Scarey huh? That's what i said. I think that was gods way of saying he wasn't ready to go home. I spoke to his doctor the day before and he said he would be going home either Saturday or Sunday. Which is good for the type of surgery he had. Then the fever on Friday. I said to his doctor "so much for going home." He was like i guess i just jinxed you guys. I said it's ok but how long are we going to be here? He said as long as it takes to get him better. I was very happy to hear that. I like this hospital because unlike Yale u get your own room here. Don't get me wrong i love Yale too but at least here no matter what the situation u get your own room. I spoke with his doctor this mornig and guess what? We get to go home tomarrow. I am so happy for him. His scare looks really good. Now when we get the ok we can go back to physcial therapy and we get to work on get this WALKING!!!!!!! They said he will walk. It will just take a little time. Anyway i hope everybody has a great day. Keep praying for us talk to everyone later.
I am extremley happy for you and lil Joshua! Many prayers!
