    About Me

I'm a 19 year old college student. I just finished my first year of nursing school at Loyola University in Chicago. I just got a dog- Sammy, he is a miniature doxen and I love him! I love animals, pictures, reading, and my family. I was diagnosed will Olliers disease when I was 11 months old. Since then, I have had 19 operations and am now have chronic pain. I'm learning that life isn't always fair and stuggling with tough medical decisions that in my future.

    • Close Bone Cancer
      Type: Chondrosarcoma

I have not been diagnosed with cancer, but have all the symptoms in my knee. I have a large enchondroma tumor. It was supposed to be biopsied in January, but the doctors must have decided to be lazy and throw it in the garbage instead of sending it to the lab. Now, 6 months later, I have no idea if it has turned malignant because the biopsy I have placed my hopes in never actually happened.

    • Close GERD & Heartburn

After terrible stomach pains (and thinking it was a tumor), I was diagnosed with GERD. I had terrible symptoms, basically every one in the book. I took Prevacid for a long time. Finally, I met a GREAT GI doc and had an endoscopy, catscan, GI test and was put on Nexium. I have now learned how to live with it and it doesn't control my life.

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
I can't have lemonade, BBQ sauce, high fat cheese, or spicy stuff.
      Nexium Working / Worked
I take 40mg in the morning and 40 mg at night. Works great!! (doctors have told me its better than prevacid- I believe them!)
      Pepcid Working / Worked
I take if I need something extra and my symptoms get worse.
      Prevacid Not Working
I used to take it and it didn't help much.
Raising Bed Position Working / Worked
    • Open Chronic Pain

I finally started seeing a pain doc in September and its great having someone that fully concentrates on my pain and tries to make life a little more pain-free than it used to be.

      Treatments

      Cymbalta Not Working
I used to take Cymbalta until it was increased and I started having nightmares. The dreams consumed my daily life because they would come back into my thoughts in the day. Nightmares went away when I went off the Cymbalta. It did not help with the pain.
      Heat Working / Worked
      Lyrica Working / Worked
Amazing for my headaches. If I don't take it, I can't function (although I don't like being so dependant on it). Also helps with some scar tissue pain.
      Morphine Not Working
TERRIBLE side effects. I was in bed for days and felt like the pain from it would never go away. My pain only increased with this and I had stomach problems, eye sight promblems, dizziness, couldn't walk, trouble urinating, and was terribly uncomfortable. About 2 days after stopping Avinza my side effects went away.
      Naproxen Working / Worked
Works great. I feel terrible when I have to not take it the week before a surgery. It is a little hard on my stomach though, I try to eat a lot when I take it.
      Nerve Blocks Working / Worked
I get nerve blocks in my ribs. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
      Physical Therapy Not Working
    • Open College Stress

Nursing school is harder than I thought. My health problems consumed my year and it was hard to fully focus on school. Until I know more about my health problems, I'm unsure if I can go back next semester, although the bill is due soon :/ I'm also supposed to be looking for an apartment. I had a rough freshman year. I had some bad experiences with new friends. I learned a lot about life- so I guess that was good.

      Treatments

      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
It was great being able to call my mom or dad. I also kept in touch with my bestfriend from highschool.
    • Open Migraine Headaches

I have had headaches and migraines my whole life. I have a tumor at the base of my skull so I get paranoid sometimes because I worry that the headaches are related (I see a neurosurgeon tho). Lyric works miracles for my headaches, but I still have daily tension headaches.

      Treatments

      Acupuncture Not Working
      Naproxen Working / Worked
      Lyrica Working / Worked
    • Open Anxiety

      Treatments

      Breathing Exercises Somewhat Helpful
      Breathwork Somewhat Helpful
      Paxil Too Soon to Tell
I'm weaning from Effexor to Paxil ER right now. I'm hoping it will help and I won't have side effects.
      Xanax Working / Worked
I hate taking Xanax because I don't like being dependant on it, but it helps me sleep at night and not have such vivid dreams form the serotonin.
    • Open Narcolepsy

I have hypersomnia with long sleep time. I sleep 12 hours if not awakened by someone. I used to fall asleep during class and take naps. After taking Provigil, it has gotten better.

      Treatments

      Provigil Working / Worked
    • Open Scoliosis

I was diagnosed around the age of 11. I have a 27% curve.

    • Open Environmental Allergies
      Type of allergy: Dust

I'm allergic to dust mites and have a few outdoor allergies. I have chronic sinus infections and terrible itching in my eyes, nose, throat, and ears.

      Treatments

      Allegra Not Working
Worked for months and then stopped being effective.
      Nasal Irrigation Somewhat Helpful
      Nasonex Not Working
      Rhinocort AQ Not Working
