So I was able to hang out by the pool and go swimming for a little while. I did, however, have to go the bathroom @ the pool about every 45 minutes …

    • Hug

      From buttabean August 3

Hey Naomi thanks for the inspiration :) I'm taking it one day at a time and trying to make the best of it! Hope everything is going good with you.

Naomi, Thank for the hug! I am taking it one day at a time. It's hard to live with such a horrible disease/illness. It wasn't our choice to get this... not something we did right or wrong.... my advice I got from her (ex g/f) was that I need to find someone who has Crohn's Disease, and knows what it's like to go through this --> which makes sense, but not enough to see why she wanted to be in a relationship with me in the first place. Anyways... this is getting too long. I wanted to say thanks!!

I've had a colostomy bag since my accident back in 01. It's so tough dealing with something like this. I can't believe you went swimming :) That takes guts I'd never be able to get enough gonads to do that :) lol.

    • Close Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis

I was diagnosed w/ ulcerative colitis in March 2006. I had to have my colon removed last year. Right now, I have an ileostomy bag but am hoping that it's not permanent (pending surgery in the near future).

      Treatments

      Asacol Somewhat Helpful
I was put on asacol when I was diagnosed in March '06 and for the most part, it kept the uc under control. There were some minor flare ups up until the uc got so out of control that no meds were helping and I had to have my colon removed.
      Dietary Modification Working / Worked
After surgeries, I was put on a low fiber/low residue diet to avoid abdominal cramping or blockage. Gradually, I was able to introduce more foods into my diet.
      Lomotil Working / Worked
It does help to slow down the amount of times you have to go to the bathroom. I was on this after I had the restorative surgery(j-pouch). Side effects is that it makes you tired after taking it for awhile.
      Prednisone Working / Worked
It did help to slow down the bathroom visits during my severe uc flare up but ultimately did not get the disease into remission since I ended up having surgery. Side effects included a crazy increased appetite and mood swings. I wasn't quite myself at times.
      Probiotics Working / Worked
I have been taking acidophilus pills for the past couple of years to aid in digestion and help keep yeast infections away.
      Surgery Working / Worked
I had my colon removed in Sept 2007. I had an ileostomy bag until Jan 2008 when I went in for the restorative surgery so that I would have a j pouch instead of the bag. They found an infection in the j pouch in April so I went back for surgery so that infection could be treated. Now, I have the ileostomy bag again and I'm hoping to go for another restorative surgery at the end of the summer. Side effects were soreness, lack of physical strength, significant weight loss and emotional stress.
