About Me
I've had asthma since birth, both intrinsic and extrinsically caused. I am on mainenance drugs for this now, that keeps it relatively under control. I've lost my health insurance however, and these drugs are enormously expensive. I've had clinical depression since my teens. Was diagnosed as hypomanic bipolar when in my thirties. I have tried quite an assortment of antidepressants and other drugs, over a nearly twenty-year period, with no lasting good results. Was zombified by most of the drugs, made terrible silly decisions on many of them; things that I regret now. I self-medicated at times, but somehow avoided the horror of addiction that took many of my friends down the rabbit-hole. At different times of my life, my illness has affected me to varying degrees. Lately things are not good, with agoraphobia and anxiety creeping in more than ever before. Although I refuse to be defined by my depression, lately my entire life has been badly affected by it. I am here hoping to talk to others with similar stories; to learn and grow and somehow deal with this.

Support Groups
Close Depression
: Clinical (Major) DepressionBigShoe62 hasn’t entered any details for this support group.Close Asthma
Type: Adult AsthmaChronic intrinsic and extrinsic asthma since birth. Hospitalized dozens of times in my life, emergency room more often. Currently on Advair diskus and Theophyllin. Have no health insurance, and am suffering financially from this. Advair is unbelievably expensive.
Treatments
- Advair Working / Worked
- Take it daily.
- Albuterol Working / Worked
- This is the last stop before the emergency room. Use it in a nebulizer. Gives me the shakes, but I loves me some breathing.
- Breathing Exercises Somewhat Helpful
- This can be helpful. Also during an attack, concentrated meditative techniques can be used to help you calm down and expel your breath.
- Flovent Not Working
- Tried this but it was not effective.
- Inhaler Working / Worked
- I use the Maxair Autohaler as my rescue inhaler, and it works splendidly.
- Serevent Working / Worked
- I used this along with Vanceril, before the burst inhalers were outlawed. I then switched to Advair.
- Singulair Not Working
- This was not effective on me.
- Theophylline Working / Worked
- Take it every day. It is old-school, but helps greatly.
