I'm an FAP Survivor; My father and brother both had colon cancer. My father had his intestine removed at age 30 and lived life with a bag until his death at 55. My baby brother had colon cancer but didn't tell anyone and died this past December at age 30! Boy, that has been difficult to get over. You never expect your younger brother will go before you! I was diagnosed with the FAP gene but I don't have cancer, however, I'm scheduled for surgery to remove all of my large intestine the end of May. I am the lucky one to beat this thing and will make sure it doesn't take my children! I work full time in an office. I have two girls - one twelve and one four year old. Happily married to a wonderful Latino man. He's a long haul trucker out supporting our family but we don't see each other much. I have no meaningful friendships in my life and long for female connection. Unfortunately, as women we can't tell our husbands everything - they just wouldn't understand. If you're in a similar boat contact me. Gracias
I'm bilingual in Spanish and English. I love the arts, however, I haven't endulged in quite awhile. I love to be creative but that too I have no time for because I work full time. I'd love to pick up a hobby or take an art class - if I could just squeeze it in! Sometimes I wish our days were 36 hrs. long instead of 24! Mostly I enjoy quiet evenings at home watching a little television after I put my daughter to bed. TV: CSI - The original Law & Order :SVU Big American Idol Fanatic - In fact I'm counting the days until the next season start January 2009! I follow reality TV because it's mindless and I can multi-task and still follow along. Music: Mostly anyting alternative, pop 40 and R&B. Basically whatever is played on the radio. Favorite artist right now: Nickelback Favorite latino artist: Juanes and Shakira I love 80's and 90's too - Depeche Mode, INXS, Erasure, George Michael, more!

Just thought i would let you know i made it thru the colonoscopy. I'm only 22 and everything turned out ok...for now. I tested positive for some kind of bacteria that causes my constant diarrhea, but they're treating me for it with intensive antibiotics. Other than that i'm very glad i made it through because i was so nervous.
Hi Rose, You sure do have a lot to deal with, especially for someone so young. I applaud your attitude though and you seem to take it all in stride. I'm glad to hear you're back at work-after just 6 weeks! That's great. I hope you're new anatomy isn't too much of a pain. What kind of work do you do? Sounds like you have pretty good doctors looking out for you and aren't too hasty about doing more surgeries. Especially ones that will diminish any quality of life. Do you have these other growths because of the FAP? I'm going in for my 1 year colonoscopy in a couple weeks and the Dr. also wants to do an EGD. Or is it an EDG? It's when they go through the mouth to look at the small intestine. Have you ever had one of those? As long as I'm alseep, I don't really care. I only want to have to do the prep once. Missy
I have had the same surgery as you and know that it is not easy. Hope you are feeling better and I am here if you ever need to talk.
God bless you lady. He will be in your recovery too.
Happy to add you as my friend! Thanks for letting me know how the surgery went. Sounds like it couldn't have gone better. It's hard to believe all those polyps (did you say you already had 100's?) were cancer-free. You'll have to tell me what it's like to live without a large intestine. I can't even picture that! It must be a nice feeling not to have to worry anymore about colon cancer-especially with your devistating family history. I'm so sorry for your losses. We really do have to take charge when it comes to our health and not rely on doctors to make the right decisions. Often times they are too busy, or whatever, to really do what's best for the patient. I read your journal about the eye exam. That is amazing. I never heard of that before. In your case, it didn't detect cancer though. Did it detect the bad FAP gene instead, do you suppose? Anyway, best of luck with your recovery. I hope you share your experience in your journal-not that I'm nosey, just curious. Missy
