      From Jaken June 5

You were kind and sent me a hug after I lost Jake. And now, a big hug to you. I'm so sorry about Casey. No one can prepare you for what follows their last little loving breath, just an empty and hollow feeling. But like potholes in the road, we just continue driving and turn the wheel to avoid them. I hope you are coping alright. Hug your other dogs tight, and give 'em all you got!

I lost my 10 year old little Bichon Frise Holly in February, the vet said something had gone catastrophically wrong in her heart. She had been ill since December and got worse and worse, we spent every minute we had with her and I hold these days very near to my heart. I know the pain you must be feeling as you watch your dear friend struggle with his illness. The only thing you can hold onto is how happy you have made your friend, without you his life would not have been so wonderful and he has rewarded you with his love. Here on DS people will understand how you feel, we all deal with our sadness in different ways, just carry on loving your dear, dear friend and stay by his side. Thinking of you.

I lost my 'Mr. Mac' a month ago Sunday. I understand. He too was a rescue dog. There are those of us who allow this wonderful creatures into our hearts as family - and others who just have pet's. I am a firm beliver that going out straight away and finding another whose life you will change brings both honor to your Bear, and buffers sadness. Whatever you do, I'm honored to know another who loves their animal's almost as much as they loved you.

    • Close Pet Bereavement

I have never joined a support group before. I am joining now because one of my dogs, which are like my kids, is very sick and I am having a very rough time dealing with it. I have panic attack problems and since "my boy Casey" was diagnosed with cancer which nothing can be done about, I am afraid to leave the house and have had to work from home. I am not sure what I need, I just know I need to handle the situation and continue with my life. He is still alive, and I want to be with him all the time. But when I look at him, or when he seems to be in pain, it is like I am being stabbed in the heart.
