My son has been after me for some time to get a pet.  We had fish but the did not last and he was very upset when they died.  Since we live in an apartment I was limited on what to get.  I was reading the freecycle boad and found a hamster that someone was giving away cage food everything.  so we brought it home and the look on my sons face it is so amazing.  He can't wait untill I let him out each day so he can hold him and put him in his rolling ball for exercise.  We have a spot outside that is a side walk and my son allways tells him the rules no going past this point no going in the street.  It is so great to see him bond with this pet.  He talks to it and when he plays a game his pet has to play to.  I think it is the best thing I could have done for him.
