I have UC. I've had it since I was 7 but was diagnosed when I was 9. I was very sick for many years as a child but was then in remission for a few years... symptom free. Now I'm out of remission again and have been off and on for about 2 years now.
Treatments
- Asacol Working / Worked
- I take it off and on, not good I know. It seems to work most of the time. I take 9 Asacol a day and 1 Canasa. It's hard to keep the Canasa Suppository in and I hate the wet feeling it leaves behind.
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Somewhat Helpful
- Avoid fruits, veggies, nuts, alcohol.
- Azulfidine Working / Worked
- It's harsh on the stomach. But is inexpensive and does the trick.
- Flagyl Working / Worked
- I was given this for a few days after my most recent hospitalization. I didn't notice a difference.
- Prednisone Working / Worked
- Deffinately works to stop the bleeding but like my Doc said, does more harm than good. Weight gain, joint and stomach pain, roid rages... Aweful side effects!
- Probiotics Considering
- I took them a few days and they made my stomach pain worse which I didn't even think could happen. I quit taking them.
- Acupuncture Somewhat Helpful
- I went once a week for a few months. My stomach pain occurance slightly lowered and it helped me sleep more.
