    About Me

I am 50 y/o nurse. I am married with one child of my own and 3 step children. I moved to SC from Michigan 9 years ago. I have suffered almost daily with hives for three years. I have tried every medicine recommended, had every lab test, x-ray, and skin test with no diagnosis other than idiopathic. I would love to talk to anyone who has had relief or at least understands what life is like with chronic hives.

Hi Sandy, Just reading your journal entry bought everythijng back to me. I have had chronic urticaria for 29 months now and have had many days like the one you are describing. Days when I could not even put clothes on, which isn't a good look. Personally I am completely resistant to antihistamines and leukotreine inhibitors, though they do make the itching slightly more bearable. I live in New Zealand and am very fortunate to have been offered IVIG (IV immunoglobulin) as a treatment. This for me has worked wonders and has greatly reduced the severity of my symptoms, so much so that I have not taken any prednisone now for 9 weeks. I have had 8 months of monthly transfusions and will have 2 more then we will see what happens without it.I am also going to start on Salazoprin to help with the delayed pressure urticaria which are fairly resistant to treatment. I reccomend you look at www chronichives.com for information and support from fellow hivers, Also found a great article on the web that I would reccomend you read and take to your allergist/immunologist to assist in your treatment. I googled it and it was easy to find. ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES in CHRONIC URTICARIA by David A. Kahn. This is a very thorough article and full of many therapies and treatment options with which to treat this disease. I hope this will help you and I will be here to offer you advice and support. Tammy
