    About Me

I'm 16 and just finished my GCSE exams (Maths, english, media, business studies, religion, french, physics, chemistry, biology and engineering. At the moment i think i'll have to re-sit some subjects because i was pretty ill with asthma. In my spare time i love to walk, run, swim and play hockey.

    • Close Asthma

I had asthma as a child but grew out of it- i forgot about it, that was until I ended up getting taken to hospital aged 12 having a severe attack (and i had no blue inhaler) since then my asthma has got worse to the extent i now take two preventors at high dose, a long acting reliver and a short one. Also i am taking steriod tablets and montelucast. recently i have been quite ill with it after an severe alergic reaction to some chemicals and nothing seems to help.

      Treatments

      Advair Working / Worked
Had this when i was younger. Once my asthma was under control i was taken off this and put on Flovent
      Albuterol Working / Worked
I use this when i have an attack. Only trouble is it gives me really shaky hands and a fast heart beat
      Azmacort Not Working
I'm guessing that this was the steriod injection i had. I think it is called Kenalog in the UK
      Duoneb Working / Worked
I have the two seperate parts of Duoneb as i dont think we can get this in the uk. Generally works quite well but have had some ocational troubles with my asthma not responding to it.
      Flonase Working / Worked
Had this for hayfever. Seemed to work quite well
      Flovent Working / Worked
Used flovent for asthma when i was younger. Completly took away all my symptoms(although i did have mild asthma then) I doubt if it would have the same effect on severe asthma
      Inhaler Working / Worked
Have quite a few of these. Prefer the easi-breathe ones as i dont have to carry a spacer
      Prednisone Somewhat Helpful
Each time i have taken this there has been very little improvement to my asthma
      Pulmicort Working / Worked
Had this for a little while but then i got put onto symbicort instead
      QVAR Working / Worked
I take 8puffs of this inhaler a day. It seems to prevent a lot of attacks
      Singulair Working / Worked
This seems to lessen my allergies
      Symbicort Working / Worked
This inhaler seems to be having a little effect but it also gives me shaking hands
    • Close Acne

I have has quite bad acne on my back for a few years. Recently i have been refered to the dermotology department at my local hospital. I have been trying lots of treatments but havent found the right one for me yet.

      Treatments

      Benzoyl Peroxide Somewhat Helpful
It seemed to help my spots but i found it bleached all my clothes!
      Differin Not Working
This cream seemed to do absolutly nothing for me!
      Minocycline Somewhat Helpful
Its hard to tell if these tablets helped me much but now my dose has been doubled i hope it will work
      Retin-A Working / Worked
This helped a lot but also caused my skin to become red an very pealing.
      Tetracycline Working / Worked
      see Minocycline
      Washing Not Working
This is obviously the fist thing to try, but in acne the problem is much deeper and nearly always needs other meds
      Oral Contraceptives Working / Worked
This is the thing that has worked best for me but is still not perfect.
    • Open Dyslexia

It was discovered that i was dyslexic during primary school, fortunatly i was able to get specialist tutoring and now you can barely tell. I still have problems with spelling and writing letters the right way round

    • Open Migraine Headaches

I have had migranes ever since i was a toddler. In the past i uded to be sick every time i had one but now I dont have this so often

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Not Working
I tried the allergy diet, starting with basic foods and adding others one at a time to see i had migranes when i ate a certain food, this totally didn't work even though i have tried it a couple of times
      Caffeine Working / Worked
I didn't use coffee, instead i drank coca cola. This seemed to have some beneficial effects
      Inderal Working / Worked
This worked for me but it caused me to constantly wheeze so i had to stop it.
      Pizotifen Working / Worked
This seems to reduce how often i have migranes and they seem to be less severe when i do get one
      Promethazine Working / Worked
I use this to stop me being sick when i have i migrane. This diffinatly works for me
      Domperidone Too Soon to Tell
My doctor just prescribed this for me. Its to help my body absorb the pain killers i take for migrane quicker
