I hate it when people say "this is common with Downs" how do they know what is common? Every child is different and I think that if a child has a deficit in one area then it needs to be addressed. I think they are just being lazy. Your child has the potential to progress just like every other child but sometimes they need a little boost and they should be embrasing this instead of road blocking, I sure hope that you can find an outside therapist to help you guys, look until you fing one that works for you

Sebastians diagnosis was a bit of a surprise at birth -- my AFP had been borderline -- but when I went in for the more intense ultrasound, they ruled out abnormalities and I refused an amnio. I had worked with Downs kids all through high school, so it didn't worry me because I enjoyed them so much. When he was born -- no one could tell right off the bat --it took them several hours to diagnose him -- but when they did it wasn't WHAT they told me that was offensive it was the WAY they told me -- they were so somber and negative and when I accepted it right off the bat they actually told me I was in denial -- the only decent person those first few hours was my OBGYN -- when he found it -- he came in and said he knew the diagnosis and thought that we'd do great and to remember that he was a BABY, not a diagnosis -- Sebastian has not had any major medical issues, so he has been able to progress quite well physically -- it's just his speech (or lack of it) that is the stumbling block and frustrating thing right now he will be 4 May 7th and can only say 3 words - cat, dog and mom -- oh well it will get better....
I have 6 children, 17, 14, 6, 5, 4 and 2 - with my 4 year old being Down Syndrome. We have been trying to get pregnant since last July with no success. I'll be 39 in August and am worried that the factory is shutting down -- but we keep on trying (at least it's fun)
