    About Me

I've had major depression for decades now, though it is usually way better these days than it ever used to be. It hits me in the face again sometimes, but for shorter periods of time. I also have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and used to have an eating disorder and self-harm as well. I don't self-destruct anymore, amazingly. I'm very isolated living in the country in a new town with a new baby and a boyfriend. This site helps me stay connected and sane (more sane, I should clarify). I like listening to others too.

    Interests

Cats; art: Artist Trading Cards (ATCsforall.com), mosaics, watercolours, sketching, etc.; writing; friends; my beautiful six month old baby Kiki; psychology; etc etc...

      Treatments

Positive Thinking Too Soon to Tell
Let me know if any person is good at this while they're depressed.
      Prozac Somewhat Helpful
No side-effects, but not quite as good for me as Aropax (Paxil) was. I had to go off that to keep my baby safer during pregnancy and now breastfeeding.
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
Started a short-term counselling thing again after not needing it for a few years. I like the woman I'm now seeing. We'll see how we go.
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
Staying connected is hard where I am in the country, but it's essential, and this site definitely helps too.
      Writing Working / Worked
It helps a lot to write on this site because it connects me with people of similar experiences, helping to relieve my isolation. The cathartic effect is very useful for me too.
    • Close Parenting Newborns & Infants (0-1)

I have a seven month old baby girl (born Now 13, 2007) named Kiki. She is Awesome!! I'm here to look at issues other parents have with their kids of similar ages, and to ge4t help whe things come up with Kiki like her current temper tantrums when we put her in her bed, about 60% of the time. Overall my partner and I are amazed at how wonderful Kiki is, and how fun it is to be parents.

      Treatments

      Breast Feeding Working / Worked
At first Kiki wouldn't attach without a nipple shield. But at about three months old, she started breastfeeding without the nipple shield. It's much less messy without the shield, and much easier! Kiki doesn't like breastfeeding in public when there are any interesting things around for her to pay attention to. She likes to lay down beside me in our bed and feed that way. I love the little noises she makes when she first latches on. I love watching her feed. She's so peaceful and cute!!!
      Patience Working / Worked
Letting go of my patience at all makes far more work for me to do calming her down or teaching her something new. It's just not worth losing patience! I can sigh a lot when she's done whatever sheh's doing.
      Research Working / Worked
It helped tons to read lots before and after Kiki's birth. It gave her dad and I some feeling of competence and gave us less surprises with what she did and what we should do. Knowledge is power.
    • Open Bipolar Disorder

      Treatments

      Depakote Not Working
I had to go off this because it slowed down my thyroid too much, and gave me pitting oedema.
      Haldol Not Working
I tried this twice. The first time it put me in a coma. The second time it nearly stopped my heart, but didn't thanks to a quick-acting doctor.
      Lithium Not Working
I had to quit this because it slowed down my thyroid so much. I really wanted this one to work.
      Zyprexa Not Working
      just didn't work, unfortunately.
