Close Bipolar Disorder
I was misdiagnosed at 18 and then properly diagnosed at 21 after a major manic episode. My bipolar is hard to treat and I think I have tried almost every med on the market. It has been quite a roller coaster ride. Not a lot of friends due to bipolar episodes.
Treatments
- Abilify Somewhat Helpful
- This is a very strong medication that left me without short term memory capabilities.
- Celexa Somewhat Helpful
- From what I remember, it gave me the shakes, no real benefit. No big bad side effects other than fine tremor.
- Geodon Somewhat Helpful
- I cannot say that geodon helped me. It made me pass out for about 2 hours, 30 minutes after every dose. Very strange. I was very irritable in between naps not sociable at all.
- Lamictal Working / Worked
- Helped me level out for once. Kept me straight for a while. Very expensive so I dropped it.
- Lithium Not Working
- Didn't work for me. It actually created symptoms associated with a UTI. Very strange, but its a salt so whatever. No real pros here and i tried it more than a few times, more than one type.
- Risperdal Working / Worked
- Have been on it for years. Very helpful, especially with paranoia and panic feelings throughout the day. No real side effects to speak of, no weight gain thank god!
- Seroquel Working / Worked
- Works awesome. Took it for years. Very effective. The only problem is that you will sleep like there is no tomorrow. I couldn't hold a job because I slept until 2 in the afternoon everyday. Other side effects minimal.
- Tegretol Working / Worked
- I guess it works, but I didn't like the weight gain. Same thing as Depakote just a slightly different chemical make up, same side effects. Said to be more tolerable.
- Topamax Not Working
- Dubbed as 'dopamax'. Yes, you will feel drugged, slow, and basically incapable of most everything. A lot of staring at walls and being perfectly okay with it.
- Trileptal Working / Worked
- Very subtle. Side effects are not bad. I almost didn't even know I was taking anything. No big deal.
- Wellbutrin Working / Worked
- Have been taking it for over ten years. Has the least amount of side effects, nothing sexual at all. An overdosage on the doctors part caused a grand mal seizure, but only once in ten years.
- Zyprexa Not Working
- I don't even know if it worked because I was too preoccupied with enormous amount of weight gain that occurred immediately. Quit as soon as I figured it out.
- Effexor Working / Worked
- Been on it for a while in addition to wellbutrin. Helps a lot. Strong sexual side effects though.
