Hello there' Gld you have seen the dentist- getting rid of the old metal (mecury) fillings is important, nd only 1 other filling is pretty good. Gingivitis can be treated with antibiotics. Important to keep up the saliva (I'm on meds which dry it up - have been over 20 years: this isn't a help) Seems things have advanced recently: so glad your dentist can help you - all you need now is the cash to pay for it all!!! I couldn't get into the Govt. Clinic for over 1 month - so will have to take my problem home with me: and find another dentist who is willing to do the minor op. in the chair - without all the "full catstrophe" - ie" day in Hosp., Friend to drive me home - morning , visits to anesthetist before the "op." - new X rays, and on & on. Not to mention the surgeon's fees. Man must think I'm printing the green stuff in my garden shed (& in Aust. the Green ones are the $100 bills!). Hope all goes well - keep me posted - I may be absent for a few days in transit, but will get back online soon. Best regards, JaneD.

Greetings Sound OfRain, How are things going with you? - have you got up courage to go & amke an apppt.with a Dentist yet? I really think you need to have the receeding gums checked out - there may be a way of preventing more damage: but after I had Vincent's Disease -(it's an anerobic infection of the gums-often called Treench Mouth) in the early 70's, my gums had receeded: Dentist said then there was nothing that could be done: but the disease itself was cleared up with antibiotics (they had to be flown into the State then). Do at least get a diagnosis, & find out if something can be done these days. Best wishes, Janed.

Greetings, Well, that's the end of that theory - I will hve to do an i-search on your new diagnosis - can you tell it to me again please. Have just bben on phone to nearest dentist - 72 miles - we are going down today to do some shopping - they won't see me - even to look at my gums & see I need a referral to Dental School Clinic in Perth (Capital). State Govt. waiting list 130 miles up the track (ie: the other way) is 2 months! Wht a bummer! Take care now, Best regards JaneD.

    • Close MCTD

I was recently diagnosed with Mixed Connective Tissue disorder and I have Epilepsy. I guess I've had symptoms such as Raynauds as far back as 10th grade, just didn't know what it was. Now I've got arthritis and joint pain, lupus like conditions, fevers, I guess you know it all by now I don't need to go on and on. I'm looking for other people who understand. Everyone says, "You don't LOOK sick" or they say, "I've never heard of MCTD before!" Just want to talk to someone who cares.

      Treatments

      Eat Less Working / Worked
I lost 20 lbs. recently eating 1/2 what I normally ate and cutting out soda. It helped with the joint pain.
      Lexapro Working / Worked
I don't take it all the time - but noticed its effectiveness when I do.
      Music Working / Worked
Rock'n'Roll to forget myself! (Turn it UP)
      Norvasc Working / Worked
Helps with Raynaud's Phenonmenon and high blood pressure.
      Pets Working / Worked
Pets are good for when your heart hurts, or when your feeling blue, or anytime at all!
      Plaquenil Working / Worked
Working so far, might need a higher dose soon. Having flair issues.
      Sleep Working / Worked
Must get SLEEP - my husband bought us a Temperpedic mattress and it sure has helped with the pain and has helped me be able to sleep better. This also helps me with the seizures b/c you have to have certain amount of sleep with the anti-seizure meds.
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
My husband is very helpful with taking care of things I cannot handle when I'm hurting, or tired. He is very loving and understanding and this helps a great deal. He doesn't complain if I can't do as much as I used to, and he reminds me to take my meds every night - on time. If it wasn't for him, I'd be a lot worse off then I am.
    • Close Epilepsy & Seizures

Long story short - I was born having seizures, but they went away shortly after. When I turned 21 I had a Grand Mal and more thereafter. I'm 26 now and currently take Zonegran for both Grand Mal and Petit Mal seizures. I also have Mixed Connective Tissue Disease and heart problems. I've been seizure free for 4 years but I think I had a seizure two nights ago, I'm not sure, how do you really know? I woke up and my head was hurting so bad, and I didn't know what to do. Any advise?

      Treatments

      Keppra Not Working
It didn't work for both kinds of seizure, and it made me ANGRY all the time.
      Lamictal Somewhat Helpful
Didn't help for both kinds of seizure.
      Trileptal Somewhat Helpful
Seemed to help at first, then wore off and I had a seizure.
      Zonegran Working / Worked
      Perfect! I love this med!
      Lexapro Working / Worked
I don't take it all the time - but noticed its effectiveness when I do.
