    • Close Fibromyalgia

I have had Fibromyalgia for 8 years. I also have the oh! so fun side effects of insomnia, fatigue, weight gain, muscle spasms that have been severe enough to pull my shoulder out of the socket. I have also recently moved to the Seattle, Washington area and SAD hit me severly -just like a switch being flipped. ON THE POSITIVE SIDE- I have been blessed with an driving hunger to learn about holitic/ alternative/ energy medicine/ for oever 30 years. So I've been able to find intelligent solutions.

      Treatments

      5-HTP Working / Worked
I have used this on and off with varying success depending on the severity of my total symptoms. I also say on and off because I've read lots of conflicting info on negative interaction with medications for insomnia. So, I've backed off til I learn more since my symptoms are so very severe right now.
      Acupressure Working / Worked
Great- especailly with essential oils and massage. I got a "Pointer Plus" acupuncture point finder- great for this
      Acupuncture Working / Worked
A Gift From God- oh how I wish i could afford it out of pocket or get insurance to pay for it. I went to an acupuncturist at a pain management clinic who was so good that he was able to help radical muscle spasms. they would literally melt sometimes.
      Aqua Therapy Working / Worked
I have used hydrotherapy in my bath tub with great success. Magic formula: 2-4 cups of Epsom Salt, 1/2 large bottle of hydrogen peroxide, 12 camomile tea bags steeped in pot of boiled water. -Empty into a hot bath and melt like butter.--ALSO HELPFUL: essential oils (research what you use and mix with carier oils so you don't burn skin!) from lavender to relax and cope, to "pan away" by Young Living and many more- good medicine.
      Elavil Working / Worked
Every doc wants to give 5 prescriptions each..... and this is one of the meds with the most long term research for Fibromyalgia, depression, and suppressing excessive substance P--BUT it comes with the price of lots of side effects. Still is less radical than alot of the other alternatives, but.......?
      Guaifenesin Working / Worked
This protocol would be great if it wasn't for the fact that you have to give up all herbs, and many plant based substances.
      Heat Working / Worked
Hot baths, and "Moist Heat heating pads from medical supply companies -they deliver the heat deeply into the muscles.
      TENS Working / Worked
Best done by a professional- it's easy to overdo on your own!! Can help break a spasm cycle, especially when used with other complimentary therapy: massage, chiropractic, "Thumper" massage machines, infrared therapy....
      Vitamin B12 Working / Worked
works best with a full food-based B-Complex. Better yet, with a great food-based multi-vitamin/ mineral.
