Bad News, Bad Timing Mood
Monday, April 14, 2008 | A Painful story

1 month ago, I noticed the 1st signs of something "off" about Tessa.  When I took her to the vet, they did a full chemistry/blood profile, checked her urine and fecal, checked heartworm, etc. and the only thing slightly off was a liver profile.  It was a hair lower than normal.

They wanted to recheck her in 4 weeks, unless she did not resume eating.  Initially we thought her pickyness about food was behavioral.

2 weeks later, when she was still being "picky" I took her back to the vet.  They tested her blood again, and the same results came back.  Again, the doc said- if she doesn't resume eating, then we'll look further. Otherwise, let's just monitor it.

She didn't resume eating and progressively seemed to be getting worse.  I knew in my gut that something was wrong with her, she didn't seem like the same dog.

Today, I took her to the vet and they did xrays.  They found some fluid in her abdomen and chest and wanted to do an ultrasound.  Best case scenario would be some kind of congenital heart defect and she could be medicated; worst case scenario would be a mass around her heart.

I am just devestated... I knew that she would not be around forever, and this day would come but its heart breaking.  I am sitting waiting for the results, trying not to get ahead of myself.
