ETHEL Mood
Friday, May 16, 2008 | A Poem/Artistic story

She woke up this morning and did her usual full body stretch.  This is part of her morning ritual to fully stretch her arms and her legs extending her toes as far as they go. Oh it feels so good! Next she gave herself a bath.  Then she decided to venture into the kitchen to see if grandma left her any breakfast.  There was a bowl of food for her and she ate greedily.  It wasn’t until later that she noticed how quiet it was and she realized she was totally alone in the big house.  Where were her mother and grandmother? How dare they leave her alone.  She cried out for them with indignation.  This wasn’t right. Ethel felt that she was a princess and deserved better treatment then this.  Why wasn’t she told that she would have to fend for herself today?  She had been abandoned.

Dejectedly Ethel lumbered up the stairs to the living room and hefted her large body on the couch.  She positioned herself on the blankie in the window, her favorite spot for her mid morning nap.  She settled in to dream of happier days with her dear departed partner, Fred.  He used to take care of her.  Life had not been the same since she lost her buddy who shared everything with her.  She dreamt about playing ball, dressing up, dancing, and sharing her bed with Fred while the sun streaked in the window and baked her skin. She slept so peacefully she did not even hear her mother come home.  When Ethel woke up she was delighted to feel her mommy petting her warm feline fur coat.  She purred happily. And all was forgiven.

Mid morning nap is a term my husband coined. In fact he said Ethel had her morning nap, mid morning nap, afternoon nap, mid afternoon nap,...well you get the idea.

I feel your hurt, Ethel is a metaphor for Phil, god help us when she goes. She has been through so much with you and the kids. Lady and the rest who have left us. My heart is with you. Try to get some sleep and rest. Like the bible says, turn, turn, turn there is a time for everything. Luv, Ree
