Two years ago, in 2006, I was diagnosed with Bipolar-I Disorder at a mental health hospital after my car accident. I was fully manic, also psychotic. Earlier, my first episode in 1987 was not diagnosed, maybe because no obvious signs of depression, and I knew nothing about BP. Even now, I more often experience a "gray" (bland) depression, rather than the deep "black" one. In 1987 the BP was not known in family, but now BP1 is a known part of our family history on my mother's side.
I better not tell the whole story now, or I'll *never* get off the Internet. Am Bipolar-I with a tendency to get addicted / obsessed about everything.
My mother struggled with alcoholism, but my own co-dependency mostly came from my co-dependent father whose mother was also very co-dependent. From that side of the family, I assumed boundaries were bad things to have... so I tried not to have any. You can imagine the mess I end up in. My two live-in relationships, first one a marriage with the father of my three children, were with alcoholics. I also had substance abuse problems years ago. Recovering from all these things has been crucial.
Over-eating, but also suffered from under-eating and extremely poor eating when I was younger.
