Don't let them give her Prevacid. And check some of the other stomach meds they will give to control stomach acid actually can cause extreme diahrrea. I took care of my mom for 9 years. She has a neuro deficit on her right side and walks s l o w l y with a walker, and drags her right leg/foot. When she gets loose, as you can imagine, it gets serious. We're talking a trail to the bathroom, even the bedside commode. Well, she had gall bladder surgery, and they put her on these meds, and we went through two months of hell before we identified that it was the meds that was causing the problem. I'm not trying to minimize your mother's problems. Just beware of how meds effect her. And most of all my prayers are with you both.

I have no idea what to tell you. I saw a report the other day on a news program about this very thing and there was a doctor prescibing medicinal marijuana to patients during chemo to boost appetite. Which, I know is controversial and I think only legal in a few states, and probably not even something your mother would want to do anyway, since there is a stigma attached to it. It was however an interesting program, there are companies that put the marijuana in baked goods so that people who can't smoke it get the hunger causing benefits. But I was wondering, if you don't feel like eating anything, how would you stuff down a pot-brownie? BTW. I don't smoke myself, but I have to say, after watching what my sister went thru with terminal cancer and not wanting a bite to eat, I don't think it's something that should be judged too harshly. I know she would have given anything to "want" to eat.
