How Holocaust heroine rescued 2,500 childrenIt took four Kansas teens to bring the world her storyBy Kirsten Scharnberg …
I am actually reading, enjoying and remembering.
The book is The True Story Hansel and Gretel, a novel of war and survival
by Louise Murphy
I started it yesterday and made it to page 83/300. I had to force myself to close it last night since I had to get up early this morning for a doctor's appt. Once I get hubby back on the road, I think I'll be able to do a marathon reading session. Something I haven't done in a VERY long time.
For anyone who might be interested it is the story of two young Jewish children in World
War II Poland, who's father turned them loose in the woods in an attempt to save them from the Nazis. They are taken in by an old woman, whom the local village considers to be a witch. Meanwhile their father and step-mother have connected with a group of partisans operating in the forest, not far away. I've just reached the part where a sadistic SS officer has shown up in the village for a yet to be determined reason.
Thank You david43 for the recommendation!

you are most welcome, Susan! glad to hear you are enjoying the book. i think there is something to Louise Murphy's narrative voice, beyond the action of the narrative itself, that really makes the story feel so compelling. reading - Yea!!!
