Very clever piece...Really gets you thinking...

So true...I have often wondered when I find myself getting impatient with life in general..............and it never hurts to go out of your way a little bit to help another..........even if it is just opening a door for someone else or a smile and a gentle hello, sometimes we get too much in a hurry and forget to remember the niceties...............so important................I know in my low times in life, how very much it meant to have someone just smile at me............what a difference it would make in the world if we could just remember to be extra nice.......because we really don't always know what someone else is going through behind their facades......................this is a good reminder!!!!

This was so deep. there are so many hurting people out there. And sometimes I'm one of them.

At first I thought the guy was going to pull out a gun and start shooting everyone! That was great and it certainly makes you look at things from a different perspective!

Like dgs i thought the guy was gonna pull a gun but that was amazing and its a shame that more people dont get those glasses so they can see at a glance what others are suffering before they judge. Love you hunx

My Mom, who died in January, at the age of 86, was a bit like your MIL. I know she is challenging. It's really difficult, I would presume to be 91 and difficult to take care of one that age.Does she let you hug her? Hang in ther girl!

I can understand how you're feeling. My relationship wihth my MIL was alot like yours until Robbie was born. It only took me 15 years to find a way to deal with her!! Hang in there Sweetie!

I live with both my mother in laws - what a pair of impossibilities - and they were both younger than yours by at least 30 years - can't imagine what they would be like at ninety - yuck
Or maybe just move OUT and the farther the better for you

Been there done that. I thought I would pull my own hair out when my mother came to live with us. I could only do it for 5 months. It got to the point it was either going to be her or our marriage. I love you post though that is funny.

Very funny even though I realize you are only partely kidding. We took care of my wifes grandmother for a time. She was such a lovely lady when she was younger. Then in her later years she was very difficult sometimes. I feel for you...just try and remember we were probably difficult when we were younger also....

Maybe if we package it as a 3 for 1, someone will take us up on it! your MIL, my FIL and my d.sil! all with clothing and furniture and even a couple of hairy dogs! big hugs and prayers!

I am sure that if this was possible you would be doing it, but are there services for families in the US to have elderly family members go to a day program for a few days a week?? I am sure she wouldn't want to go, but you deserve a break! In Canada we have these programs.... because of the stress on the caregiver - yikes.\S.

Maybe a little mirroring back to her would help her see herself????? Like act like she does a little bit, gently though...........so she can get a glimpse of what she is putting others through.............just a thought...............that's a funny ad!!!! LOL

At her age, however..............she can't be expected to act like us grownups!!!!

Maybe your MIL had a bad MIL in her day~~~you never know. I think we all change as we age~~not always for the better! Good Luck!!

It must be a big strain for you. As ppl age their personalities change and their weaker points/or not so nice qualities are exaggerated. I don't think I could do what you are now. You must be a saint! Can she go to a respite home for a week or so while you have a break. They do that in the UK.

This is so true. People look at us on the outside and already form an opinion of us. They never take the time to get to know the inside, the beauty of someone. Im so sorry that anyone has ever treated you that way. I love you with bumps and lumps and whatever else there is. I love you for you hun.

Thank you for writing this Kathy. Beautifully said. One of the great things about DS, in my opinion, is that we often "know" our friends without ever seeing their face. We are exposed more directly to the REAL person within...the spirit and soul of love deep down inside them...via their words and thoughts.
