Hello! How are you?
Hey there. My Dad has been on Home Haemo now for 5.5yrs. I am his carer and he never considered PD because of his stature - Home D was the best option. Every bit of training my Dad has had for the machine I have gone through with him. I help him at home to connect to the machine although he lines it and everything. Once you understand the concept its really not that hard and I feel that it is quite safe. We are from NZ and recently moved to Australia. He is now on Nocturnal dialysis where he will dialyse alternate nights for 9hrs so he connects to the machine at around 9pm and comes off in the morning at about 6am. He then has a whole 2 days ahead of him before he has to dialyse again. The result is, renewed energy (because he is sleeping at night when he is supposed to - not during the day), he has the days free, oh and his medication changed - no more osteo tablets with each meal and also no longer needs caltrates - he is over the moon with that. The doctors are now doing tests for transplant for him (my Dad is 68yrs old). So if you are considering Home Haemo I would suggest you speak with your renal physician about nocturnal dialysis. Good luck and take care.
You can do it.
Welcome to DS.
When I was 21 I had total renal faliure.I started hemo right away stayed with it for about a year and half then went to pd.I waitied 3 years for my call to come in that I had a kidney.I had it for about 10 years. It failed so now I'm right back where I started from.
