Close Breakups & Divorce

My husband, a high schoo sweetheart, left after 20 years of marriage & divorced after 24.......can't seem to deal with it very well, good & bad days after all this time. We had a wonderful love story, being separated by states for 10 years and getting married after he tracked me down, he was in the military & I was just getting divorced from an alcoholic, that marriage was only a little over a year long but thought long term marriage....thought he would be there through always, though it all.

Couples Counseling Working / Worked

In counseling 1st time when oldes was in kindergarten, again when oldest was a Junior in hi sch, seems like he gave up, said he couldn't do it anymore. So it didn't work.

Family Therapy Working / Worked

Had 2 children in individual, I was in individual, he wouldn't go after going 1 time. Oldest it didn't help, he's so angry, youngest now 15, almost 16 attached herself to boyfriend when he left & still with boyfriend. I basically stopped b/c of money but had issues, Mom died during counseling & father was & is ill himself. No, it didn't work.

Pets Working / Worked

Had 3 cats before he left & still do, love them so deeply but financially it's hard especially since 2 need special diet food! But they do give me something to love on & take care of.

Psychotherapy Working / Worked

I was in counseling but had to quit b/c of finances & tired of being switched to residents, went thru 3 of them, couldn't see helping me a lot but money stopped me from going on with it, probably still need it.

Reading Working / Worked

Read divorce books, chicken soup books, positive attitude books, they're not that interesting to me, maybe haven't read the right ones.

Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful

Most are married or in awful relationships or marriages...hard to keep supporting each other when we're so down ourselves but keep trying!! Ongoing!

Talking Working / Worked

Talk to anyone but don't want to bum them out, even have talked to strangers about problems, makes me smile when connect with someone on a "real" issue.
