    About Me

I am a psychology instructor who has had tinnitus a long time, but a few months ago it got a lot worse. I love singing. I have a wife, Nancy, whom I live with. I have one natural daughter and a natural grandson and some lovely stepchildren and stepgrandchildren. I believe in doing the best you can with what God gave you.

    Interests

Singing, camping, and reading. I watch the Discover channel a lot. I like things also about the supernatural, but don't go overboard with it. I just kind of keep an eye on it. I like trivia, esp. about music from the fifties, sixties, and seventies. Old classical rock is my favorite, but I also like anything from George Jones to Weezer. I am also looking into alternative medicice for things.

Hi Greg, I am happy that you are close to Emory, it will make it much easier for you if you decide to go with the TRT therapy. I live about 500 miles away, and I have an appointment about every three months but for the help it is giving me , it doesn't matter I would go a thousand miles. My T was very quiet for the first 6 years that I had it. I had a bad head trauma that caused it. Last year I had surgery, and took a lot of antibotics and that's when it started up louder. I have it in the right ear and sometimes in the left but not to often. I know the TRT is helping me because sometimes when I wake in the morning I forget to put my generators on. I always sleep with a sound machine on , I like the sound of rain best. Never stay in complete silence, always have some sound on , a radio ,television CD ,something to distract you. I have sound all around my house and when I'am in the car. Never give up hope, because there is help for us, some people say that you have to learn to live with T. That's not true, you can learn to habitate to the noise so that it won't bother you and that's what TRT is all about it won't cure it but it will make your life 100% better. Take care and let me know how you are doing. God Bless Fall

Hi Grego, TRT therapy is a therapy to re-train your brain to not hear the Tinnitus. It could take up to two years, but it's worth it. I went to Emory University in Atlanta to see Dr.Jastreboff he is the inventor of the ear generators that you use in the therapy. What the generators do is emit a soft soothing sound that mixes with your tinnitus, to help habitate your brain so that you don't notice or hear the Tinnitus unless you listen for it. I have been on the therapy since Oct. of 07. It's been about 5 months and I find my T is a lot lower in tone and most days I don't even think about it. The ear generators look somewhat like hearing aids, but they emit a pleasant sound that is very soothing. The phone number to the Tinnitus Clinic at Emory is 404-778-3109 Give them a call , You'll be glad that you did, it has helped me tremendously. Insurance usually doesn't cover the cost of the generators, they cost me around $3,000 for the pair, but it was worth every penny., I was going crazy from the noise, I know what you are going through. Good luck. If you want to talk I am here for you. Fall

I got tinnitus about 20 years ago. It was not bad and I got used to it. Back in 11/07, one night after my wife and I went out to eat, it got worse. I was taking stuff for what I thought was the flu including some antibiotics. In February my sinuses were scoped out bc an ENT told me the tinnitus was made worse from stopped up eustachian tubes. The surgery has not really helped. Sometimes it gets better but never for long. It is loud and high-pitched. It scares me.
