Today is day 2 of no smoking. I guess I will smoke on Saturday...and hopefully last day. I'm soooo looking forward to …
I started using my tapes and workbook from the Midwest Center for Stress and Anxiety. I thought why not tell my friends about this because it is extremely helpful.
These are some things the program stresses:
1. I can't change the past.
2. I can change my attitude.
3. I can change my present.
4. This condition is temporary.
5. Knowledge is power.
6. I am intelligent, creative and capable.
7. I am open to learning new skills.
8. I am proud of myself for the changes I am making this week.
9. It's JUST anxiety.

Something else: HOW TO DEAL WITH PANICKY FEELINGS:
1. ACCEPT - float don't fight.
2. PERMISSION - I know what this is.
3. BREATHE - inhale 2, exhale 4 (deep breaths from the belly) one one hundred, etc.
4. INNER DIALOGUE - positive, comforting
5. DISTRACT - action, mental and physical for at least 15 minutes.
6. LET TIME PASS - discomfort always passes.
Use these six steps for waves of sadness, anger, worry, etc.
I hope you look into this. Good Luck.

Thank you for this info, I found it really helpful, I've copied and pasted it to word and I'm going to print it off the computer and put it on my fridge and read it at least once a day. I am going to order the book too, I am reading Dr Clair weaks book hope at the moment but will get the one you recommended as soon as I can. I would also like to say a big thank you for all your advice and support you have given to me especially over the last couple of days, I know how you have had your own stuff going on and especially your worries concerning your husband and yet you still had time for me and to hand out support, it truly shows what a very special lady you are, thank you.oxoxoxox

Just this morning I used the techniques in the program. I was up a little after 3 a.m. when my husband was getting ready to leave for NC. I began feeling more and more anxious as time was getting close for him to walk out the door. Started having fearful "what if" thoughts but then quickly changed them to positive, comforting thoughts. It works. I distracted myself with a crossword puzzle after he left and wrote in my journal book. I did take a klonapin but that's ok. Now I'm feeling better. So I floated through it, told myself I know what this is, had inner dialogue of positive, comforting thoughts, I let time pass, did the breathing, distracted myself with a crossword puzzle and my body is now back to a non-anxious state. Now if only I can practice this every time I feel anxious, near panic, or depressed. At least I'm learning new coping skills and that's a good thing.

It works for depression too. shortly after I woke up I began to have negative thoughts like oh what am I going to do today. I'll be bored and then I'll get depressed. Well I recognized these thoughts, accepted them and decided that it was ok to feel this way as long as I didn't allow it to take over and get me depressed. I reminded myself that our thoughts control our feelings and I would change my thoughts. I kept busy (distraction) and then got myself out of the house and went to the mall for a couple of hours, all by myself. I came home feeling good about the day and good about myself.
