no good Mood
Sunday, June 15, 2008 | A Sad story
I am not doing well right now. I just fell off the high I have been on the last few days. I don't know what happened to change it. I just feel so depressed.

Sometimes nothing has to happen to change it . . . this happens to me a lot. You've been through a really hard loss, and a lot of crap before that, and every so often our brains just can't keep blocking out the pain anymore . . .
I'm sorry you're feeling so sad . . . ((sending hug vibes your way))

Gift Mood
Saturday, June 14, 2008 | A Positive story
I have been thinking alot lately about gifts that people have. Some can sing, some play sports etc. I have always felt like I didn't have a gift, not in the orthodox sense I guess. I am an average person, with a messed up life, who can't sing, play sports, etc. very well. Though I do have talent for writing, it hasn't gotten me anything in life. But after thinking on it a bit, I have decided that my gift is one on the inside. I know its sounds cheesy, but I think my gift is the gift of caring and compassion. I have always been one to cry at a World Vision ad or adopting stray animals. I am a softie, and when I see pain I want to fix it. Compassion is often seen as a weakness in our world, but I see it as a gift. Not everyone can see someone hurting and instantly feel the need to help them. People who truly care seem to be few and far between (though there are alot on this site). Does it make sense to dedicate a life to compassion? To care for others? It makes me feel good to put others before me and help them. When they feel good I feel good. It is hard to always help people, but I couldn't live without it. It makes me...me.

Hey Hun,your gift is your heart. From what i've read you are a loving caring person and that is a special gift and you share it with others which makes you extra special. You take care HUGS Sue xxx

That's a great way to put it. You're right when you say that people don't value compassion enough. Too often we live in a society where most people's idea of being strong is nothing more than only looking out for yourself. It can make for a cold world. That's why people who truly feel the need to help others, to ease someone else's pain are a real gift.

it is important to care for others but....im going to play the deevil's advocates on this..its dangerous, i kno tht sounds weird but it is , u throw ur compassion and urself to helping ppl on here but u r limited in how much u can help them. u can console them and offer them support, but [and i kno this sounds selfish] u have to keep ur distance in how much of urself u pour into DS. i am by no means dismissing the enormity of help and support ppl have displayed and recieved from this site, but there are limits, wheter we like them or not.

yea, smirker is right. he usually is, i should know. i'm the same way as you. having compassion is good but fighting for it can be dangerous. you can help us on here when we need it, but don't put in all of your energy into just helping strangers. try helping the people around your computer or even in your family and see where that gets you. im not trying to put you down, but im just saying that you should be careful with what you do.

i realize that i do need to help people around here. i don't think that i ever mentioned in the entry that it was just ds where i am helping people. i am a social work/psychology major. I help people every day. I do know that I can only help so much for people I don't know. Don't worry about me, I understand that part.
